The pile doesn’t define your worth.

Ever feel like you’re just moving clutter from one spot to another? You aren’t failing at "adulting"—you’ve just created a DOOM Pile (Didn’t Organize, Only Moved). These piles happen when your executive function is maxed out and your brain hits a "decision fatigue" wall.

Instead of waiting for a sudden burst of motivation that might never come, try lowering the barrier to entry with these two strategies:

Body Doubling: Call a friend or join a "study stream" online. Having someone else "present"—even virtually—while you work can help ground your focus and make the task feel less daunting.

The 5-Minute Reset: Set a timer for just five minutes. Your only goal is to find "trash, dishes, or laundry." Once the timer dings, you have full permission to stop. Usually, starting is the hardest part.

The Reality Check: A clean house is a tool for living, not a measurement of your value as a human being. Be kind to yourself today.

As a community-based life coach, my goal is always to meet people exactly where they are, which is why I wrote this short article on embracing a neurodiverse approach to practice.

Instead of viewing the neurodiverse spectrum as a rigid line from high to low functioning, it is better represented by the infinity symbol—a complex, unique mix of attributes that we all share in different ways.

When we apply what we know about neurodiversity, we can build a much more supportive, compassionate, and personalised practice for everyone:

Communication & Literacy: Moving away from being solely reliant on forms or assuming we instantly understand one another.

Structure & Memory: Utilising clear routines and memory prompts to ease cognitive load.

Flexibility: Actively listening to what people truly need rather than using a one-size-fits-all approach.

Self-Determination: Empowering individuals to embrace their unique skills, build positive support networks, and champion their independence.

Coaching usually focuses on individual mindset, but community coaching exists within a larger ecosystem.
The Failure: Telling a client to "just think positively" about their career while ignoring the fact that local transport is non-existent or discriminatory hiring practices are rampant in the area.
The Lesson: Validation is key. Failing to acknowledge systemic hurdles makes your coaching feel out of touch and dismissive.

Community living is beautiful, but let’s be honest: when you share space, life, and goals with others, friction is bound to happen. Interpersonal bumps aren't a sign of failure; they're just a part of the human experience.

The secret isn't avoiding the conflict—it's how you navigate it.

Next time you feel the tension rising, take a breath and run through this quick 5-Step Conflict Checklist:

⏸️ Pause: Did I wait 24 hours before responding? (Give your nervous system time to settle).
👁️ Perspective: Can I state the other person’s argument in a way they’d actually agree with?
🌱 Needs: What is the real, underlying need I’m trying to meet right now?
💬 I-Statements: Did I use "I feel..." instead of pointing fingers with "You always..."?
🤝 Request: What is one actionable, realistic thing the other person can do to help?

Why the "Quick Call" is making a comeback in our digital-first world.

In a world of asynchronous everything, we’ve become slightly allergic to the phone. We hide behind Slack, DMs, and emails because they feel "less intrusive." But is "less intrusive" actually costing us more time?

As a community-based coach, I see "Communication Fatigue" happening everywhere. We spend 20 minutes crafting the perfect message to avoid a 2-minute conversation.
Here is how to choose your weapon:

Choose the DM when: You need a paper trail, the information is data-heavy, or the recipient needs time to process before responding.

Choose the Call when: There’s room for misinterpretation, the topic is sensitive, or you need a collaborative "yes/no" to move forward immediately.

The Secret Ingredient: The "Permission Ping." The most respectful way to bridge the gap? Send a DM that says: "Hey, I have a nuanced question. Got 5 mins for a quick call, or should I write it out here?" It gives the other person agency over their schedule while signaling that you value their time (and yours!).
