๐ WHAT A NIGHT. WHAT A 20 YEARS. ๐
We are still overwhelmed from last Saturdayโs Burns Supper celebrating The Driving Force's 20th anniversary at Bonnybridge Golf Club.
Falkirk Herald captured the magic, and we want to say the biggest THANK YOU to everyone who made it so special.
๐ญ TO OUR INCREDIBLE PERFORMERS:
๐คAnne Bateman for her epic, "Address to a Haggis"
๐ต Dennis Canavan, our patron, for your moving recital
๐ Fiona Armstrong for the stunning Highland dancing
๐ Robert Heeps for your powerful poetry
๐บ Peter the Piper for the traditional piping in of the haggis
๐ Pupils from Denny and St Modan's High Schools - you were absolutely brilliant!
You brought Burns to life and made our celebration unforgettable.
๐ TO OUR VOLUNTEERS:
Currently 50 dedicated people serve as drivers, coordinators, fundraisers and committee members who all have one aim: to make each patient's journey as comfortable as possible.
Saturday night was FOR YOU. Because of your dedication over 20 years:
๐ 731,159 miles driven
๐ค 15,749 journeys completed
๐ 1,771 people helped
๐ 1,397 therapy sessions provided
You are the heartbeat of this charity.
โจ TO DR BRIDGET McCALISTER MBE:
The idea for the service came from Bonnybridge GP, Dr Bridget McCalister, who is still involved with the charity 20 years after it was first launched.
Her efforts saw her awarded an MBE by the late Queen in 2018 and, despite being retired, Bridget is still fully committed to The Driving Force and is the current secretary.
Your vision 20 years ago has changed thousands of lives. Thank you for never giving up on this community.
๐ TO OUR CHAIR JUDE FRASER:
Thank you for your leadership and for keeping Bridget's vision alive and thriving.
"As we celebrate 20 years, we're actively recruiting new volunteers to help us meet growing demand. Whether you can spare a few hours a week driving or help with coordination, every contribution makes a difference in someone's cancer journey."
๐ BUT HERE'S THE THING:
The Driving Force has been a lifeline for cancer patients living in Bonnybridge, Banknock and Denny by providing them with a free transport service to take them to hospital appointments and treatment sessions without the worry of driving or having to find a parking space.
And we've inspired others! Not only does it provide this vital support for its own community, but it has also been the catalyst and inspiration for similar groups to be set up across the district, including in Bo'ness, Polmont, Larbert and Stenhousemuir.
โค๏ธ WE STILL NEED YOUR HELP:
Despite 20 years of service, there are still people in our community who don't know we exist.
DO YOU LIVE IN BONNYBRIDGE, DENNY OR BANKNOCK? DO KNOW SOMONE WHO KNOW YOU OR A LOVED ONE HAD A CANCER DIAGNOSIS?
"If you live in Bonnybridge, Denny or Banknock and you or a loved one has had a cancer diagnosis, please get in touch to find out how we can help you get to your appointments on time."
๐ WE PROVIDE:
๐ FREE transport to ALL cancer appointments
๐ FREE complementary therapies
๐ FREE hairdressing and beauty care
๐ NO COST. NO PARKING STRESS.
"For 20 years, we've been removing the stress of travel during one of life's most challenging journeys."
๐ HOW TO GET IN TOUCH:
๐ง Email: [email protected] ๐ Visit: www.bdthedrivingforce.org.uk ๐ Leave a message at your local GP practice
๐ช WANT TO VOLUNTEER?
We're actively recruiting! Whether you can drive, coordinate, fundraise, or help in other ways - every contribution makes a difference in someone's cancer journey.
๐ฅ THE FITTING TOAST:
The fitting toast was to "many more years of service".
And we mean it. Here's to 20 MORE years of: โจ Community spirit โจ Volunteer excellence โจ Lives changed โจ Hope restored
๐ THANK YOU, BONNYBRIDGE. THANK YOU, DENNY. THANK YOU, BANKNOCK.
Thank you to everyone who has supported, volunteered, donated, fundraised, or simply spread the word about The Driving Force over the last 20 years.
This is YOUR charity. These are YOUR volunteers. This is YOUR community at its absolute best.
