A glimpse of our Children as Health Champions work in Kenya, where children and schools are engaging with practical health education resources as part of our wider five-country initiative.

Across the programme, we are working with local partners to make health information accessible, understandable and useful to children while learning from each setting as the work develops.

Thank you to our partners, schools, teachers and children in Kenya who are helping bring this work to life.

What does effective health communication really look like?

It’s not simply about sharing accurate information. It’s about whether that information is understood, meaningful and useful to the people receiving it.

A reflection from our Children for Health podcast on what it takes to turn health information into something people can actually use.

Bullying is more than a difficult school experience. Evidence shows that children and young people who experience bullying are at greater risk of poor mental health, self-harm and suicidal thoughts.

On World Su***de Prevention Day, we are reminded that prevention also means creating environments where children feel safe, heard and supported.

At Children for Health, our anti-bullying resources help children, teachers and communities recognise bullying, talk about it and take practical steps to build safer and kinder spaces for every child.

Before the classroom, there’s this.

The preparation, the learning, the conversations and the people taking the time to understand the materials before sharing them with children.

This part of the work is not always visible. But it is an important part of making health education meaningful and useful.

To every teacher, volunteer and partner who gives their time, learns with us and carries that knowledge forward- thank you. You make this work possible.

What happens when health information doesn't stop at the classroom door?

Across 5 countries and 50 schools, our Children as Health Champions initiative is exploring how children turn health knowledge into something they use and share with peers, families and communities.

Because children aren't just recipients of health information. Equipped with the right knowledge, they become active participants in strengthening health literacy around them.

Working alongside our local partners and schools Phoenix Foundation we're learning from this approach across our Five Country Network and we look forward to sharing the journey, the evidence and the lessons along the way.

Follow along as we share what we're learning.

5 countries. 50 schools. One shared goal: healthier children.

When we talk about children’s health, adults naturally take the lead.

Health professionals bring expertise. Teachers understand the school environment. Parents understand their children. Policymakers shape systems and services.

But one perspective can easily be missing: the child’s.
When children are not part of conversations about their health and wellbeing, we may miss how they experience a problem, what makes a health message confusing or difficult to act on, and barriers that adults may not immediately see.

This does not mean placing responsibility for health decisions on children. They need adults and systems that protect, guide and provide evidence-based care. But children can bring valuable perspectives to conversations that affect them.

This principle is reflected in WHO’s approach to adolescent health. WHO’s 2025 Global Standards for Quality Health Care Services for Adolescents identify adolescent empowerment and participation as a core quality theme.
So perhaps we should ask not only:

“What do children need to know?”
But also:
“What do we need to learn from children?”
Because listening can help us develop health communication and responses that better reflect children’s realities.
At Children for Health, this is a question worth continuing to ask.
