Join us at our next iHV Member Practice Education Networking Event on Wednesday 9 September, 9:30-11:30am: 'Supporting Student Health Visitors in Role Transition'

This session will consider how the transition to SCPHN from previous professional roles can be supported. Specifically, role change in becoming a health visitor and the part played by practice supervisors and assessors. As part of the group discussion, we will explore the new Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) call for evidence on using the professional title ‘nurse’ and the need to protect other titles including that of ‘health visitor’. Giving attention to issues of public protection as well as professional identity when changing roles.

Women who receive health visitor support alongside smoking relapse prevention advice are more likely to remain smoke-free after childbirth, according to new research.

The team tested ‘BabyBreathe’ – a programme designed to help women who quit smoking before or during pregnancy stay smoke-free after giving birth.

The scheme provides one-to-one support from trained health visitors with digital tools, text message support, a dedicated website and app, and a relapse-prevention kit sent to families after birth.

iHV is delighted to launch its Learning and Development Training Programme for September 2026 – September 2027, offering a full year of CPD‑accredited, evidence‑based learning, designed to strengthen practice across the health visiting and multi-agency workforce.

This annual schedule gives busy practitioners, service leads, and commissioners the clarity they need to plan ahead, meet statutory obligations, and ensure their teams remain current, confident, and equipped to provide safe high-quality, evidence-based, effective care that improves outcomes for babies, children and families.

Our programmes provide a clear pathway to demonstrate up‑to‑date knowledge, support NMC revalidation, and strengthen role satisfaction and emotional wellbeing through meaningful CPD.

Join for an exciting webinar on Thursday 10 September 15:30-16:30.

Open to both iHV members AND non-members.

Generation New Era is a groundbreaking scientific study of around 30,000 babies born in 2026, and their families. It’s the first UK-wide study of its kind in 25 years. By providing vital new insights into children’s health and development, Generation New Era will help researchers, governments and service providers to improve the lives of children and families in the UK.

Parents will start to receive their invites to join the study in September when their baby/babies are around 9-10 months old. We’re especially keen to make sure heath visitors feel informed about the study as you’ll be seeing parents around this time – so you can answer potential questions from those who may be asked to take part.
