🩸 World Blood Donor Day – 14 June 2026 🩸

Every day, blood donors help save lives. Their generosity ensures that hospitals have the vital blood and blood products needed to provide urgent care, perform surgeries, and respond to emergencies.

This World Blood Donor Day, we're proud to recognise our colleague Aron Ferguson, Team Leader for Anaesthetics at Interact Medical, who volunteers with SERV OBN Blood Bikes.

Blood Bikes provides an out-of-hours rapid response service for NHS hospitals, transporting urgent blood, blood products, and other critical medical supplies when time is of the essence. As well as this, SERV OBN also provides support for the Neonatal units, collecting and delivering human milk to give premature babies the best start in life. As a volunteer rider, Aron is regularly on call, using A SERV OBN fleet motorbike to help ensure these vital deliveries reach healthcare teams and patients as quickly as possible.

Behind every blood transfusion is a chain of people making it possible – from donors and healthcare professionals to dedicated volunteers like Aron.

On 14th June, we celebrate everyone who helps keep this life-saving service moving and encourage those who can, to consider becoming a blood donor.

Today 4 of our volunteers had a privilege of riding with Mike & Neale from Bloodrun EVS as they strive to complete Lands End to John o’groats in 24 hours.

As they go along riders from each Blood bike group along the route have been joining them

We wish them well and a well deserved rest when they get there !

Every mile travelled, every shift covered, and every hour volunteered helps support patient care and our local NHS services.

We are proud to have such a passionate and selfless team. Your hard work, professionalism, and willingness to help others embody the true spirit of volunteering.

Sometimes a job comes in where we tag team with another Blood bike group,

This happened recently when Midlands Freewheelers kindly helped us with a RDV bringing us the blood heading to Kettering Hospital.

Two volunteer riders working together to deliver completely free of charge to the NHS.

Wow wow wow our Sarah completed 500 runs this week!!

That’s at least 500 blood samples delivered to John Radcliffe hospital completely free of charge!

That’s 500 runs covered by donations from our supporters, supermarket collections, and
Sarah’s time given up for free

Happy sunny bank holiday.

We are on call 24hours a day all over the bank holiday.

While we are hitting such high temperatures our bikes are grounded for transportation of blood & Platelets,

Perfect time for a wash and cool down.
