JENNIFER MURRAY MEMORIAL TROPHY WINNERS 2025 6

WE ARE PLEASED TO ANNOUNCE THE RESULTS OF THE 2O25/6 MEMORIAL TROPHY COMPETITION. A BIG THANK YOU TO OUR JUDGES HEADED BY CATRIONA MURRAY WHO HERSELF IS WELL RESPECTED AND IS NO STRANGER TO TOP CLASS COMPETITIVE RIDING. A BIG THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO PUT THEMSELVES AND THEIR FJORDS FORWARD AND ENTERED THE COMPETITION. PLEASE KEEP A RECORD OF WHAT YOU DO THIS YEAR AND GO FOR IT FOR NEXT YEAR. LASTLY, THANK YOU AND WELL DONE TO OUR WINNERS. COMMENTS TO WINNERS FROM CATRIONA MURRAY.

1st Willow. K Spaughton
It is lovely to see how you have progressed and how much you enjoy your fjord. I am waiting for the results you will have when your fjord is ridden.

2nd Dianneke. A Fletcher
Well done with your results. West Wilts is a very competitive venue. My partbred fjord competes at the horse trials regularly. It is nice that you can share the ridden and in-hand competition, being successful in both.

3rd. Ausdan Bartholomew. S Mcloughlin.
Your fjord, being young, is showing a lot of promise and is a pleasure to look at those paces. I think we will be seeing a lot more of him in the future. Take it slowly, don’t rush his training. He seems to be enjoying it now, do keep it that way

I would like to congratulate those that entered The Jennifer Murray Memorial Trophy.
Yet again a lot of you have gone to a tremendous length to portray your Fjord Horse at its best, having achieved a lot of excellent and varied results so well done.

What is so nice to see is how well the fjords are competing against other breeds. A necessity as Fjords are a rare breed in the UK which has probably the most beautiful indigenous breeds in the world so for Fjord Horses to compete against them so successfully is such a pleasure to see.
Little did people know 100 or so years ago that a few scruffy yellow imports would herald a Viking invasion and a very welcome one.

We, as we have come to expect, had a hard time in the judging room. After copious amounts of tea, coffee and ‘other’ we produced these well deserved results.

Have a good 2026

EVERYONE WHO WANTS TO ENTER THE COMPETITION REMEMBER THERE ARE ONLY 4 DAYS LEFT TO GET YOUR ENTRIES IN. GOOD LUCK.

ON-LINE COMPETITION TIME.
JENNIFER MURRAY MEMORIAL FJORD HORSE PERPETUAL TROPHY PHOTO COMPETITION 2026
This year, we have timed the competition to be judged on Easter Monday. A fitting end to the holidays for some lucky owner.
Catriona Murray, daughter of the late Jennifer Murray who was one of the first owners of fjord horses in the UK and who donated the perpetual trophy in memory of her mother has set the closing date for 2026 entries as Monday 6th April 2026.
Free Entries.
The Trophy is to be awarded to the fjord and owner with the best effort made with show achievements (not necessarily the class winner) in any recognised discipline during the whole of 2025.
Catriona, a highly experienced horsewoman/ trainer and show winner in her own right & who enviably grew up surrounded by fjord horses, heads the Judging Committee who are comprised of prestigious breeders and judges (not of fjord horses).
You can send photo's of your fjord taking part in any recognised discipline at established multi breed shows with panel judges judging dressage, in-hand, ridden and driving classes, British Eventing one day events also unaff ode. British show jumping and unaff sj. British dressage and unaff dressage . So ‘almost’ anything goes. Hopefully, a class for everyone.
The judges are looking for serious show entries so gymkhana, fancy dress, clear round, fun classes etc are not acceptable for this particular competition. This is a chance for our fjords to be professionally judged wherever in the UK they took part in a show.
It will also show our fjords competing against all other breeds in whatever discipline you as the owner chooses. It has been said that fjord horses are only suitable for farm work or as family hackers. They have proved that silly theory wrong on countless occasions across all disciplines. They do indeed make top class family horses and yes they can work the farm if asked but they are good for so very much more. So go on, enter and prove what your fjord can do. We were asked if disabled riders can take part. Absolutely, of course they can.
Your fjord must be registered with FHNSA of GB & your ownership up to date in the passport to be eligible for entry. If it is not & you want to enter, the office will register it prior to your entry. This includes over-stamping your UK passport if it has not been issued by FHNSA of GB or updating a passport from another country. Which by the way is a UK legal requirement.
We will make it easy this year. no forms, just a written report outlining your fjord’s achievements as below.
The Panel will require the name of the event, your fjord's name & UELN, the class, your placing & the date of the event. You do not need to have won your class. You must have attended the show and have been judged and placed by a BSHA Panel Judge accepted by the show as qualified to judge your particular class. If you are not sure, don't worry, enter and Catriona's team will check if necessary. That is their job, not yours. As they are aware of so many of the judges, it is rarely necessary for them to check.
Send actual entries to [email protected] stating, show, date, entry, position etc. The results are published internationally.
All that remains is to say ‘ GOOD LUCK’ AND A HAPPIEST Easter Monday for the winners or as it is known traditionally, the 2nd day of the Octave of Easter.

It might be an idea to stock up on horse products (especially grain based) as due to the present conflicts & war conditions, shortages in the future may be encountered. Please be sensible and try to avoid gross overstocking as by doing so, you might be shorting your neighbour's horse. We suggest an ongoing months supply in advance could be a good move. Fjord owners will hopefully soon be able to allow their fjords access to pasture, thereby easing the desire to stockpile.
Don't take your eye off laminitis dangers especially because the 2025/2026 winter was mild and wet, grass did not fully enter a dormant state in many parts of the country. Consequently, grass is already growing rapidly in many areas earlier in the year than usual.

We have been informed that some feed merchants are limiting how much grain based feed owners can purchase.

It’s time to present the results for the 1-2 year old fillies.

The winner is the only one year old fillie:
Absolute M Octavia
Birth year: 2024
Sire: Gio
Dam: Abra's Flicka
Dam Sire: Caseacres Magnus
Owner: Miranda Cleveland
Owners Country: USA

The comments from judges:

For a one-year-old, she's already very well-developed in terms of muscle structure, has a beautiful topline, and uses her body well in her stride. She has a friendly expression; her head could be more elegant, especially for a mare. She has a generous walk, though her hind legs are a bit stiff. Her trot is sufficiently spacious but lacks impulsion. All in all, a nice horse

The whole class:
1. Absolute M Octavia
2. Gershöjs Thea
3. Elizabeth Johanna

Congratulations!
