Teach First

Teach First We’re building a movement to make sure every child, no matter their background, gets the education they deserve. Change is possible.

We’re a charity that believes education is the most powerful tool to help a child fulfil their potential. Since 2003, we’ve been improving the life chances and choices for children experiencing poverty – working with schools to power the potential in every child.

🚨 The number of young people not in employment, education or training (NEET) has passed the 1 million mark for the first time in more than a decade.

The rise is a stark reminder of the widening challenges facing young people in our system. 📈

🚫 We cannot ignore the reality that young people from lower socioeconomic backgrounds are most likely to be affected and locked out of the job market.

If we want to kickstart economic growth and break down barriers to opportunity, government and businesses must work together to invest in schools serving low-income communities. 🤝

💡This will ensure every child has access to a brilliant education and a clear pathway after school.

“I was already leading. I just didn’t always feel I had the right to call it that.” 🗨️

Tara, Assistant Headteacher at Highfield South Farnham School and Nursery, built her expertise and now leads with confidence, after having completed our NPQ in Early Years Leadership programme in partnership with South Farnham Educational Trust. 🤝

Many teachers are already supporting colleagues and driving change, even if they don’t see themselves as leaders yet. 💡

Take the next step in your career and make a difference where it matters most.

We recently helped bring something special to one of our partner schools!

With support from the Foreign Office, pupils in Years 10 and 12 took part in inspiring careers sessions, learning about diplomacy, government roles and pathways into the Civil Service.

Proud to have helped make this happen and support the next generation to rewrite their futures. 🚀

“I have been using AI primarily as a tool to enhance my planning and teaching, rather than replace it.” 💬

Keziah, a Teach First science teacher and Head of Year, is making use of our ‘Artificial Intelligence (AI) Teaching toolkit’ module, which we’ve developed with the support of a grant from Amazon.co.uk 🤝

This module supports thousands of teachers and leaders across the Teach First community to use AI safely and thoughtfully in everyday teaching.

She said: “AI has given me the capacity to focus on the human elements of teaching that matter most (to me) - building relationships, checking in with vulnerable students, and delivering engaging lessons.

“It has allowed me to actively support my students, ensuring the technology helps close the attainment gap rather than widen it.”

From the football pitch to the front of the classroom — Nathan’s still leading from the front.

After swapping professional football for teaching, Teach First ambassador Nathan discovered that the leadership, team-building, and ability to keep calm under pressure that he’d mastered on the pitch were the perfect foundation for the classroom.

“I am proud that after 12 years of teaching, I became Deputy Principal. Leading by example was my captaincy style, and that has been transferable. The students know that I work hard, and I expect them to work very hard, too."
