Suleman comes from a family of seven living in an area where access to education is limited. His father works as a small vendor near the railway station, selling homemade candy floss, with some days bringing no income at all. When the family learned that free education was available, they enrolled their children with the hope of giving them a better future.

While Suleman was attending the BLC, teachers noticed he was losing weight. VR intervened immediately, ensuring he received medical care at a civil hospital along with proper treatment and nutrition. Today, Suleman is no longer malnourished, and teachers continue to ensure he eats nutritious meals.

Suleman’s mother actively participates in awareness programs in the community and in skills training programs where she learnt income-generating skills such as stitching and basic beauty treatments. Over time, she invested in a stitching machine, began taking small orders, and now earns from home, helping her family meet basic needs.

With growing confidence, she has also become a voice for social change in her community, encouraging other families to send their children to school and ensuring education reaches more children, just like it reached Suleman.

Aysha’s* family came to Mumbai from a village in 2012, carrying little more than hope. Work was scarce back home, so her father began searching for daily wages in Mankhurd. For several years, the family moved back and forth between Mumbai and their village during every harvest season, struggling to survive on uncertain income and constant instability.

By 2018, the family finally settled in Mumbai. Their first connection with Vision Rescue (VR) began when Aysha’s older siblings were enrolled in the Beacon Learning Center (BLC). Later, during the lockdown, when work disappeared and resources were scarce, VR stood by the family with food ration support and continued education through online classes. This consistent support built trust, stability, and resilience within the household. Today, all of Aysha’s older siblings continue their education in nearby local schools.

When Aysha turned five, her parents confidently enrolled her in BLC, already convinced of the power of education. She now attends regularly, learns with enthusiasm, and progresses well. Her mother actively participates in community group meetings, and the family dares to dream again, especially when Aysha proudly shares her ambition to become a police officer.

Meet Zaheer*, the youngest of four children, whose family migrated to Maharashtra nine years ago. With only one earning member and no ration card, the family struggled to access government food support and education during their early years in the city.

Vision Rescue’s (VR) Beacon Learning Center (BLC) entered into Zaheer’s life as a bright ray of hope. Along with free quality education, his family received hygiene awareness, medical supplies and regular home visits from VR community case officers. Knowing that the VR team was always just one phone call away, gave the family will-power to persist through difficult moments.

Over time, they began noticing changes. Zaheer’s communication improved, his confidence grew, and learning became a shared experience at home. Zaheer’s elder sister (earlier a student of BLC) now helps him with his homework, a moment that brings joy to the family.

Beyond education, VR supported the family in securing a ration card, enabling access to essential government food entitlements. Today, Zaheer is enrolled in formal school and enjoys learning.

Your support makes stories like Zaheer’s possible. Swipe to see his smile!

7 year old Ram* woke each morning in a single rented room in Mankhurd, Mumbai, where survival often took priority over school. His father earned irregular wages pulling a handcart, and despite his parents’ strong belief in education, Ram had never been enrolled in school. That changed when Vision Rescue’s(VR) Community Champions connected Ram’s family to the Beacon Learning Center (BLC).
For the first time, Ram held books, traced letters, and discovered the joy of learning.

Today, he eagerly attends his classes and speaks proudly about continuing his education in the nearby public school. Ram dreams of becoming a police officer.
The transformation reached beyond Ram. His siblings thrive in the Sibling Program, gaining life skills and motivation. His mother, after completing a Mehndi vocational course through VR, is working toward contributing to the family income and participates actively in group meetings.

Rahim is the youngest of three children in his family. His parents, Ibrahim and Ayeesha, moved from a rural area with one clear hope: education would create a better future for their children. While the older children are enrolled in local schools but sometimes struggle with regular attendance, Rahim’s journey with learning began differently.

During his Sr KG at the Beacon Learning Centre (BLC), Rahim was a bright, curious, and expressive child. Early on, he learned a lesson that would shape his future: the importance of showing up every day. With consistent guidance and follow-ups from BLC teachers and case counsellors, regular attendance became a habit. When he transitioned into Std 1 at a nearby government school, that habit stayed with him. Today, Rahim attends school regularly, completes his homework independently, and proudly shares his dream of becoming a teacher.

This progress is made possible by parents who deeply value education. Ibrahim works seven days a week at a local poultry shop to support the family, while Ayeesha makes bracelets at home and actively participates in awareness sessions conducted by Vision Rescue. Empowered by these sessions, she now shares her knowledge with neighbours, extending the impact beyond her own family.

Rahim’s story is a powerful example of how early learning support, parental commitment, and community engagement can change a child’s path, and in time, many others.

Every morning, Kanza* runs through the narrow lanes of the slum community with her school bag bouncing behind her. The five-year-old’s eyes light up as she reaches the Beacon Learning Centre (BLC). Her family migrated from a village in Uttar Pradesh in search of a better life. But sadly, they found only hardship. Her father works as a daily wage carpenter, but his work slowed down after a knee surgery. With no steady income, the family struggled to manage even basic needs. Her mother stayed home, caring for Kanza and her older brother, who studies in a nearby school.

When her mother heard about Vision Rescue's BLC, she reached out to enrol Kanza. In June 2024, Kanza was enrolled in Nursery. She received nutritious meals, an education kit, and regular health checkups at BLC. These were things her parents never imagined they could afford. Her mother says, “She comes home very happy after BLC. She even tells me she wants to become a police officer.” At home, she loves playing with her brother. Thank you, dear donors, you gave Kanza an education and a reason to smile.

Imran* is the youngest of six children, living with his parents and siblings in a tiny kaccha house. His father works as a tailor and his mother manages the home. When Imran was just 13 days old, a small cut during his first haircut turned into a serious infection. He had to undergo surgery and spent weeks in the hospital. Doctors told his mother that the infection had affected his neurological development and that he would need extra care. For years, Imran stayed home, struggling to eat, unable to speak clearly, and even missing out on school. His mother worried but had no support.

Imran was around four when a Vision Rescue Champion met his mother in the community. Soon after, Imran was enrolled in our Beacon Learning Centre (BLC). It was a safe, nurturing place where he could grow and learn at his own pace. At BLC, everything was new and overwhelming. But slowly, Imran began to settle. Surrounded by care and encouragement from his teachers & peers, he started smiling more, trying new things, and slowly finding his voice. He started singing rhymes, learned numbers, and even shared what he learned with his sisters. “Now he says he wants to be a teacher,” his mother says with a proud smile. Thank you, dear donors, for being part of Imran’s journey.

Qadir* (4 years) joined our Beacon Learning Centre (BLC) in July 2024. At first, he barely spoke and wouldn’t mingle with anyone. Like most children, Qadir cried through most of his first week in the classroom. But with regular counselling, home visits, and follow-ups by our Community Case Counsellor (CCC), he began to cope well and got along with all the other children. Now in Junior KG, Qadir enjoys learning, completes his homework, and proudly shows his parents what he’s learned. He dreams of becoming a police officer.
Initially, Qadir’s family struggled to keep their home clean and healthy. But after his mother began attending our Focus Group Meetings (FGMs), she started following simple tips to improve hygiene at home and maintain personal hygiene. This has made a big difference to their family’s health. His parents have also noticed how much more confident and active Qadir has become. Qadir and his family extend their heartfelt thanks to Vision Rescue donors and partners who have supported them.
