SolidariTee

SolidariTee A charity led by young people, directly supporting legal aid for refugees and asylum seekers.

SolidariTee is an international movement of students, and those who support us, fighting for the rights of refugees and asylum seekers. A refugee is someone who has been forced to flee their home due to fear of persecution because of their identity or beliefs. Today, refugees and asylum seekers who have fled violence and persecution, making unbelievably difficult and life-threatening journeys to r

each safety, are frequently forced to live in unbearable conditions in ‘camps’ across Europe and around the world.

We’re a grant-giving charity, offering grants to NGOs (non-governmental organisations) which provide legal aid and other long-term, empowering forms of support to asylum seekers. We also work to raise awareness and inform the international community about the injustices perpetrated against refugees and asylum seekers worldwide, and about how we can create positive, lasting change to uphold the rights of all those affected by forced displacement. Our 800 student volunteers organise a variety of online and (covid-19 permitting) in-person events and activities, ranging from conferences and panel discussions through to pottery events and quiz nights, in addition to raising vital funds through the sale of our custom made t-shirts, or SolidariTees. In the 2020-21 academic year alone, we’ve provided grants totalling £103,000 to 6 different legal aid NGOs, and organised more than 100 different events and online initiatives. We’re student-led, but by no means student exclusive, and to make truly meaningful change we need to unite the international community as a whole. We welcome everyone to attend our events, join the movement, and stand in solidarity with refugees worldwide. To read more about our work, visit our website: https://www.solidaritee.org.uk/

No one should need courage to understand their rights.

✖️ Abel saw his asylum claim rejected because of an administrative error.
✅ With support from a legal NGO in the Stand In The Gap coalition, he appealed the decision and was finally recognised as a refugee.

👉 Across Europe, people on the move are left to navigate complex procedures without the support they need. These gaps lead to people being denied the protection they deserve.

Stand In The Gap. Help fund support that makes a difference for people on the move across Europe.

In recent months and weeks, Mali has seen large escalations in violent conflict, adding to pre-existing humanitarian and displacement crises.

Since April, militant groups have prevented travel and blocked food and fuel supplies from entering Mali's capital Bamako and other regions. This is drastically increasing food security concerns and putting civilians at even more risk.

As a result, more than 1 in 5 people in Mali are in need of humanitarian assistance, and over 750,000 people have been forced to flee their homes. People who have been displaced face further conflict, exploitation and human rights violations in neighbouring countries, with women and children among those particularly at risk.

No one should have to be brave to be safe. But in the absence of access, courage is all that's left.

People seeking safety face extraordinary barriers just to access ordinary things like seeing a doctor, finding a job, or putting a roof over their children's heads. There should not be a need for this kind of courage.

refuses to let this gap stay empty. This , 14 organisations from all across Europe come together to show the reality of these failures and exactly how we work to fill them.

From providing safe housing, vital legal and educational aid, to distributing medical care and essential supplies, we direct our efforts in the space between what was promised and what exists.

To mark the 75th anniversary of the Refugee Convention, we are raising €75,000 between June 15th-30th to turn courage into real and reliable support.

Stand in the Gap with us. Launching 15th June.

Wear a SolidariTee, spark a conversation this summer👕

By choosing a SolidariTee, you're choosing to take a visual stand in solidarity with people forced to flee their homes around the world, while directly supporting grassroots organisations in Greece to provide legal aid and mental health support to asylum seekers and refugees.

There's a story behind every design - our most recent 'Freedom' collection is based on a drawing by Abdul Basir Salarzai, who was 18 at the time, came to Greece from Afghanistan, and has received support from our partner . He describes his drawing of birds flying over the mountains of Afghanistan's capital Kabul as 'just the picture I have in my memory’, one of the last views of Afghanistan he had.

The war in Sudan has now been going on for over 3 years, resulting in 150,000 people being killed, 14 million people displaced, and two thirds of the population needing humanitarian assistance to meet their basic needs.

Despite often being described as 'the world's worst humanitarian crisis', the situation in Sudan is still rarely spoken about in mainstream media.

The humanitarian impact of the conflict continues to be devastating, as people face severe food insecurity and famine, a lack of access to water, sanitation and hygiene facilities, and inadequate access to quality healthcare.

Women and girls in particular also face horrific levels of sexual violence and exploitation, whilst displaced people face additional risks of violence and being unable to access humanitarian aid.
