Please check for Hedgehog nests before strimming! They like to nest in long grass, under hedges and amongst overgrown vegetation, so they are at risk of accidental injury or death if these areas are strimmed. 🦔

Small gaps that make a huge difference: this is a hedgehog highway.

Hedgehogs can walk up to two miles a night looking for food or a mate, but their natural highways are blocked by fences and walls. Creating safe corridors from your garden to the one next door lends a huge helping hand to these little critters – for example, by making holes in or under your garden fences, or taking a brick out of a garden wall for them to pass through.

Plus, hedgehogs are a gardener’s best friend: their appetite for slugs, snails, beetles and caterpillars controls bugs naturally. So give hedgehogs a helping hand and encourage your neighbours, too - a single hole helps, but linking multiple gardens together creates a vital "superhighway" for the animals 🦔

This morning we had a full house. My (Anthea) partner and his daughter came in to help with the hogs and see/learn more about them and what we do at the rescue. We have another rehabber in the making 🥰🥰 no hesitation in getting mucking in and mucking out, with the highlight being seeing and weighing some of the hogs

Today, our contancerous little ball of spikes goes home. Shrimp, who loved nothing more than to swear at us as soon as we opened his hutch door (and occasionally the shed door!!🫣) finally gets his freedom. He arrived as a 138g baby and leaves at a respectable 782g Loves his grub so its a good thing he will continue to get an all you can eat buffet 🤣 his departing gift was a chomping on my little finger to remember him by 🤦‍♀️🤣 Good luck Shrimp, You'll love being back outdoors 🦔❤️🦔❤️

Hedgehog highways are important, as we eat away at the habitats of hedgehogs by building houses the hedgehogs can find themselves locked out of their home.
