Vicki and Penny were delighted to deliver sight loss awareness training for the NHS Audiology team this week.

The session included a fun interactive quiz, practical sighted guiding demonstrations and discussions about the everyday impact of living with sight loss. It was a great opportunity to share knowledge, build understanding and help improve accessibility for people with visual impairments.

Thank you to the Audiology team for inviting us along, and to everyone who took part and contributed to such an engaging session.

Were you amongst the good people who visited the WSTN's stand under the Old Market Hall in Shrewsbury today? Kath and Peter braved the weather with a smile this morning. Margaret, Ian, Mike and Charlotte joined us later to fly the flag for our award-winning Talking Newspaper which celebrated its 50th anniversary last week, produced by volunteers week in, week out except at Christmas. The event was organised by Community Resource to mark the 2026 Volunteers Week.

This week's WSTN includes 32 local news stories from the pages of the Shropshire Star together with the monthly updates from Sight Loss Shropshire and Community Resource , a double feature from Ben Waddams Wildlife and Art about Nature in June (from the Shropshire Magazine) and water voles (from the Shrewsbury Chronicle), our weekly sports report, recent news and updates from our Whitchurch team and another feature from the Shropshire Magazine on a young man with a passion for clocks and watches.

You can listen to the WSTN via our web-site (www.wstn.org.uk), on Alexa or other smart speakers (just ask her to "enable Talking Newspapers", then "play the West Shropshire Talking Newspaper", as a podcast or simply by dialling 01743 387 287 and following the instructions which Ian gives there.

Our memory stick listeners have been sent an additional memory stick which contains our 50th Anniversary special edition.

We always love to hear from our listeners, so please ring us on 01743 364 726 and leave us a message if we're not in the Studio or e-mail us at [email protected]. Happy listening 🙂

A big thank you to tutor Josephine b design for leading such a fun and engaging workshop.
