Glos Masons The official account of the Provincial Grand Lodge of Gloucestershire - home of Craft Freemasonry in Gloucestershire

Our Province covers the pre 1974 boundaries of the county of Gloucestershire with meeting places ranging from Chipping Campden in the North, to Avonmouth in the South, from Coleford in the West to Cirencester in the East. In all we have about 3000 members in this Province alone who are all part of the greater national fraternity numbering around 250,000 members. Freemasonry will soon celebrate the 300th anniversary of its formal founding but there is evidence that it goes back much further. The principal aims of Freemasonry have clearly stood the test of time. These may be summarised as being considerate to others, helping those in need or distress and aspiring to be a better citizen. We strive for these ideals within the framework of good fellowship. Being happy and communicating happiness are one of the aims of our fraternity, and I hope that that message will come over loud and clear as you browse through our page.

Learning and Development is alive and well in the Province of Gloucestershire.

Provincial Grand Learning and Development Officer - Ashley Fellows, took the opportunity to present 5 brethren with a certificate marking their completion of Solomon Online Craft modules.

Solomon Online is the United Grand Lodge of England online learning platform for Freemasons to further their knowledge of the history, meaning, ritual and customs of freemasonry.

In Gloucestershire you are eligible for a certificate on completion of all craft modules. On completion of the Royal Arch modules you will also be able to claim your lapel pin marking your achievement.

Among the recipients was non other than our own Provincial Grand Master - Ian Davies, leading by example. Also pictured Sid Yule - Provincial Grand Director of Ceremonies, Scott Redpath - Provincial Grand Steward, Alex Wilson - Master of and James Partridge of host Lodge of St Paul.

Thank you to Lodge of St Paul for accommodating these presentations on their installation evening.

If you are a freemason want to start your learning journey you can find a link in any recent copy of the second rising email or DM us here and we’ll signpost you. If you are not yet a freemason and you are curious about joining please DM us here also.

Today was Installation at Gloucestershire Provincial Grand Stewards Lodge 9439 and WM W Bro Robin Ogden was Installed in to the Chair and in this his 40th year in Freemasonry. WM Ogden hopes to visit a number of Stewards Lodges during his year and he thanked The Installing Master W Bro Andy Holdsworth for installing him and for his hard work promoting the lodge throughout 2025/2026.

The food was excellent and the raffle raised the equivalent of £1 a day for entire year and it's all heading to the 2029 Festival which had smashed through £1M already by the end of September.

PGM W Bro Ian Davies reminded brethren that Chef W Bro Gary Shellard will be hosting the Freemasons Book & Breakfast this Saturday between 07.30 to 11.30 at Wotton-Under-Edge Masonic Hall for £12 and all proceeds go to the Gloucestershire 2029 Festival.

PGM W Bro Ian Davies also thanked Provincial Grand Stewards Lodge for their excellent work at the Freemasons Gloucester Cathedral Service on Sunday in leading the procession.

Of the 30 guests this evening, several were light blues, so please remember that you only have to be a steward to join but visiting can start from the minute that you join the Freemasons. You'll be very welcome to attend anytime and see this fantastic lodge.
