What does a familiar meal mean to someone living with dementia? 🍽️💭
For World Alzheimer’s Day, the BDA EDI Committee and Older People Specialist Group are highlighting how inclusive nutrition support can honour identity, culture, memories and personal choice. 🧠
Food is about more than nourishment. Familiar flavours, mealtime routines, treasured recipes and shared moments can bring comfort, connection and a sense of belonging. 👨👩👧👦🌍
As communication changes, a person’s preferences remain important. Taking time to learn what they enjoy, involving people who know them well and adapting the mealtime environment can help keep care centred around the individual. 🤝
Inclusive care also means reflecting on our services. Do menus represent the people we support? Does advice fit with the foods families actually eat? Are we making space for personal preferences instead of relying on assumptions? 🍲
Swipe through for practical ways to make nutrition care more personal, accessible and meaningful at home and in care settings. 👉
