Paws, paths & plenty of chat 🐕💙

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us for our Woof and Walk to celebrate 30 years of Carers Leeds! It was such a lovely day, full of fresh air, friendly faces (two legged and four legged), and the chance for carers to take a well earned breather together.

We loved seeing so many of you connect, share stories, and support each other. And of course, the dogs were a highlight too 🐾

As we celebrate our 30th anniversary, moments like these remind us why supporting unpaid carers is so important. We can’t wait to do it all again soon.

If you’d like to help us continue creating events like this and supporting carers across Leeds, please consider making a donation using the link below.

New research featured in Yorkshire Evening Post, from of one our local universities Leeds Beckett University, has found that more than half of care staff start supporting people with dementia without any training.

That’s a stark reminder of how many people — especially unpaid carers — are left to figure things out on their own.

Take on the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge for Carers Leeds ⛰️💚

To celebrate our 30th anniversary, we’re asking you to take on one of the UK’s most iconic hiking challenges and make a real difference for unpaid carers across Leeds.

📅 Saturday 22nd August 2026
📍 Horton-in-Ribblesdale
🕠 5:30am – 5:30pm

You’ll trek 39.2km (24.5 miles) across breathtaking Yorkshire countryside, conquering Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough—all in one unforgettable day.

But this challenge is about more than the miles…

Many carers take on their role without support, guidance or recognition. While caring can be rewarding, it can also be exhausting, isolating and overwhelming—impacting health, wellbeing and finances.

By signing up and fundraising, you’ll help Carers Leeds be there when carers need us most—through our Support Line, groups, one-to-one support and work in hospitals across the city.

For 30 years, we’ve been championing unpaid carers. With your support, we can continue to ensure no carer feels alone.

💪 Ready to take on the challenge?

🐾 Paws, Paths & Plenty of Chat 🐕

Join us for a special Woof and Walk as we celebrate 30 years of Carers Leeds — and help raise funds to support unpaid carers 💙

📅 Saturday 18 April 2026
⏰ 10:30am – 12:00pm
📍 Roundhay Park, LS8 2HH

This friendly, relaxed walk is just for carers and is dog-friendly, so feel free to bring your well-behaved pooch along on a lead 🐶

As it’s a Saturday, we’d especially love to welcome working carers who might not usually be able to join us during the week. It’s a great chance to take a breather, enjoy some fresh air, and connect with others who understand the caring role.

We’ll walk at an easy pace so everyone feels welcome (two-legged and four-legged alike!), and you’ll also have the chance to find out more about the support available to you as an unpaid carer.

🎟️ Booking is essential via Ticket Tailor:

We’d love to see you there 💚

Grief doesn’t follow a neat timeline.

Many of us are told it fades over time, but research and lived experience suggest something different: grief often stays the same size, but what changes is how our lives grow around it.

This is sometimes called the “growing around grief” idea. Over time, routines, responsibilities, relationships, and new experiences expand around the loss.

For unpaid carers, this can feel especially intense. You may have spent years caring for someone, and the end of that role (whether through death or other loss), can leave a grief that stays with you long after the caring stops. Life doesn’t erase that loss, but over time, it allows you to create space for new moments, new routines, and even joy, alongside the grief.

It’s okay for grief to remain. It’s okay if it shows up differently at different times. Growing around grief doesn’t mean forgetting or moving on, it means learning how to carry it while still living.

You’re not alone in this and do reach out to us if you'd like support.❤️
