Caring Questions – episode 2💬

In this episode, we explore the different ways you could manage someone else’s money when they rely on you for support.

Laura explains the key differences between:
• Financial Power of Attorney
• Ordinary Power of Attorney
• Third Party Authority
• Appointeeship

Understanding these options can help you choose the right level of financial support for your loved one, while ensuring their wishes and best interests are protected.

Against a backdrop of glorious sunshine (last year it was a little wet, but didn’t dampen our enthusiasm), staff and volunteers from Carers Leeds, met with other charities, all part of the ‘Charities Together’ network, in Park Square, for pre-parade photos and to add some finishing to our colourful outfits, including rainbow tattoos and face paints!

We were thrilled that 4 wonderful student volunteers from the University of Leeds joined us this year – Mia, Anji, Grace and Lucy, who have done some amazing work to build capacity with The Caring Kind Project.

The parade was spectacular - so much energy, passion, and celebration for our LGBTQAI+ community. We held our banner proudly, representing a host of wonderful charities, who together support and advocate for people across Leeds, and wider. Spectators turned out in their 1000’s, and did not disappoint with cheering the parade on, every step of the way!

This Disability Pride Month, we’re shining a light on the experiences of disabled carers.

More unpaid carers are disabled than people who aren’t carers, yet this often goes unrecognised. In our survey, over half of carers told us they have a long-term health condition or disability themselves.

While managing their own health and wellbeing, disabled carers also provide vital support to others every day. Their experiences and the unique challenges they face deserve greater understanding and recognition.

Get creative and tell your story at our free Zine Workshop with local artist Beth Hewines at the beautiful Temple Newsam House and Estate.

Never made a zine before? No problem! A zine is a small, self-made booklet where you can express yourself through words, drawings, collage, photos or anything that inspires you. It could tell a personal story, celebrate a favourite hobby, music or artist, or simply capture your thoughts and creativity.

During this relaxed 90-minute workshop, Beth will guide you through creating your very own zine.

There is also an exciting opportunity for your finished zine to be displayed at Leeds City Museum as part of a public exhibition running from October 2026 until May 2027, alongside work created by other local community groups.

This workshop is free, but spaces are limited.

🎉 We did it! 🎉

Our 3,000 Mile Challenge has officially come to an end, and what an incredible month it's been.

As of today, Carers Leeds staff and volunteers have walked, cycled and swum a fantastic 3,800 miles (and still counting), raising an amazing £3,260 for unpaid carers across Leeds.

Over the past 30 days we've travelled along canals, through forests, around lakes, across cities, towns and even different countries. Together, we've covered the equivalent of travelling all the way from Leeds to New York (and beyond!) 🌍👟🚲🏊

A huge thank you to everyone who donated, cheered us on, shared our updates and helped us reach this incredible milestone. Your support will help us continue providing vital information, advice and support to unpaid carers across the city.

If you'd still like to support Carers Leeds, there's still time to donate! Simply click the link in our bio or visit: https://localgiving.org/charity/carersleeds

Feeling inspired? You can even set up your own fundraiser and help make a difference:

Thank you for helping us celebrate 30 years of supporting carers and for walking alongside us every step of the way. 💙
