Meet Our Team.

Our Simon Says Team are responsible for implementing the work our charity does, and executing our core mission to support Hampshire children and young people who have a significant person in their life who has died or is dying.

They are a united and accomplished team led by our Chief Operating Officer, Chandra McGowan. Each go above and beyond in all that they do with dedication and compassion.

Thank you Chandra, Debs, Rhian, Rosie, Jo and Amanda for supporting children and young people to grow around their grief with hope in Hampshire.

Simon Says. Small Charity. BIG Impact.

This Small Charity Week, we are proud to be part of a national celebration of the vital role small charities play in communities across the UK.

Although we are defined as a small charity, we make a big impact to the lives of bereaved children and young people living in Hampshire.

We give grief a voice, helping children and young people understand their feelings, supporting families to rebuild their lives, and guiding professionals to respond with confidence and compassion.

Please help us to continue our vital work:

Thank you. ♥️

Beth's story.

In this clip Beth talks about the support she received from Simon Says after her dad died.

We are sending our love to anyone who finds this weekend tough. Father's Day might feel different from one year to the next, and you can't predict how this weekend will go.

Whether you decide to recognise Father's Day or treat it as a normal day, do whatever works for you.

If you are supporting a grieving child or young person in the lead up to Father's Day and need help or guidance, please visit our website:

[Image description: Closed caption video. Beth appears in a beach setting throughout. She is wearing a green hoodie, black running shorts and grey trainers. The sea is a vibrant turquoise with white waves crashing against the shore. In the background, a sandy beach and a town are visible. The sky is partly cloudy with some sunshine. Beth is filmed running along the beach, standing on wooden posts that extend into the sea and surveying the horizon, and sitting in a promenade shelter talking directly to the camera. The video ends with a montage of three photographs of a younger Beth with her dad. In the first they are out at sea fishing in a small boat. In the second they are sat together at the top of a coastal path with Beth’s young brother. The third is a close up of Beth sat on her dad’s lap, her arms wrapped around him. Both are smiling at the camera. They have the same kind and warm expression and mirror each other.]

Huge congratulations to our newest Simon Says Champion School, Harefield Primary School in Southampton.

Keri and Daisy, who have led the programme at the school, have developed long-lasting structures that will support grieving children and their families. They now have a comprehensive bereavement policy and procedures, staff training, and are soon to start their own bereavement group.

Keri notes:

"Becoming a Simon Says Champion School has had a significant and positive impact on our whole school community. The support, guidance and training provided by Simon Says have strengthened our confidence, knowledge and capacity to support bereaved children and their families with compassion and consistency.

One of the most impactful developments has been the creation of our Grief Box. The Grief Box is now accessible to all staff and offers comforting, practical tools that can be used immediately with children who may need support. This has helped ensure that our response to bereavement is consistent, thoughtful and child centred.

Our journey as a Champion School is already making a meaningful difference, and we are committed to continuing this important work."

Thank you Harefield Primary School for showing exemplary practice in supporting bereaved children in your school. You shine!

A BIG thank you to our amazing fundraiser Janet Samways and all the residents at Collingwood House in Fareham.

Janet celebrated her 80th birthday recently and she decided to hold a cake sale in aid of Simon Says and another wonderful local charity, Charlie’s Beach Hut.
She raised £127 for each charity!

She is pictured here with her son, Steve and grandson, Daniel.

Thank you so much for your support and kindness Janet. We hope you had a wonderful day.

If you have been inspired by Janet to fundraise for our 25th Anniversary campaign, please visit:
