The results from the PSA Testing organised in conjunction with the Worcestershire Prostate Cancer Support Group referred 54 men to their GP for further investigation. None of these had shown any symptoms and were unaware that they had raised PSA.

The good news is that 185 returned PSA within the normal range and are advised to repeat test within 3 years.

The PSA of 26 men was in the Amber Zone, just above the normal limit, and they were recommended to contact their Doctor for a follow-up test.

The PSA of 28 men was in the Red Zone which is outside the guideline range for men of their age. It does not necessarily imply there is anything seriously wrong with their prostate gland but they were strongly advised to see their Doctor and, if necessary, be referred to a specialist Urologist.

Let's hope that all those referred to their GP will find that, through taking the test, the cancer has been found early enough to be successfully treated.

Prostate Cancer is called the silent killer because there are no obvious symptoms until it is probably too late.

Any man over the age of 45 should have a regular PSA test as there is a 1 in 8 chance they will develop prostate cancer at some time in their life and, if there is a history of cancer in the family, on the female side as well as the male, this becomes a 1 in 4 chance.

The Worcestershire Prostate Cancer Support Group in conjunction with the Fulford Trust offer free PSA blood tests to those who register. Following each testing session between 8 and 10% of those tested are referred to their GP.

Two of Bewdley Rotary's members were last year identified with early stage prostate cancer which has now been treated. Don't chance it. Take up this offer, sponsored by Bewdley Rotary, and, as places are limited, register now for a free PSA blood test.

"Rotary’s role, as an independent, trusted voice rooted in communities, has been essential. PolioPlus showed that when public institutions and civil society work together with clarity of purpose, persistence, and mutual respect, extraordinary things are possible."

In this article, Judith Diment reflects on why is in a unique position to help rid the world of polio through global co-operation 🌍🤝

Thursday 23rd April 2026 is 'World Book Night.' Sadly, that night some adults won't be reading a book or anything else for that matter because around 15% of working age adults in England struggle with basic, functional literacy. This can have a dramatic effect on their lives. The good news is that there is free, confidential, one-to-one help available. Volunteers from Read Easy Wyre Forest will be in the foyer of Kidderminster Library on Thursday 23rd April 2026 from 10am to 4pm. If you know someone who wants help with their reading they can find out more about our scheme by coming in to talk to someone or contacting either - Raine on 07800 860299 email [email protected] or Sue on 07807 836746 email [email protected] More information is available at www.readeasy.org.uk
