It has been a real honour for me (Barney) to represent AMN at the European Mennonite Leadership Council gathering in Lezhe, Albania this week. What a wonderful group of people committed to following Christ in the way of Peace. I was greatly inspired, encouraged and blessed by being with such a wonderful group of people. It was good to be part of the opening ceremony for a new multifunctional centre serving the poorest and most marginalised in the community. We also had the opportunity to visit a school founded by Klemintina and Dini Shahini a truly amazing couple.

On Saturday 26th September we held a joint Peace Conference with the Anabaptist Mennonite Network, Brethren in Christ Church UK and Incarnate Network. Our speakers Ray Motsi and Karen Sethuraman, are both activists and academics, and brought a deep understanding of Peace Making rooted in their own experience. We also had space for conversation, grappling with some great questions offered by our speakers. Following the success of the day we are already making plans for another Peace Conference next year.

Grounded in the Anabaptist and Mennonite peace tradition, both the Brethren in Christ Church UK and Incarnate (a project of the Anabaptist Mennonite Network) are committed to living out our faith centred on Jesus' message of peace. We will gather to explore how we might be Peacemakers in an increasingly divided society with guests sharing from their own experiences of working and ministering in contexts of violent division and space to discuss together and respond to their stories and insights.

Rev. Dr Ray Motsi is President of the Theological College of Zimbabwe, minister of Bulawayo Baptist Church and founder of Grace to Heal, a charity committed to community Peace Building, Conflict Transformation and Trauma Healing.

Rev. Karen Sethuraman is pastor of SoulSpace Belfast, former Chaplain to two Belfast Lord Mayors, PhD student with the Centre for Anabaptist Studies and activist for peace, gender equality and unity in Ireland.

The day is free to attend but there will be an offering taken on the day - cash or digital options for giving will be available. A delicious Zimbabwean meal will be provided at lunchtime by our friends at West Midlands Brethren in Christ Church. Booking will close on 19th September to help with numbers for catering.

Wild food author Miles Irving is a world renowned writer, speaker and teacher on the topic of wild food. His book The Forager Handbook is considered to be one of the ‘must-haves’ for budding and experienced foragers alike.
Miles is convinced that the biggest factor in our current ecological crisis is people’s disconnection from landscapes and wild ecosystems, therefore the most urgent task is re -connection. Please pray this evening in solidarity with our friends who are working for peace in Belfast.

Forthspring unequivocally condemns the protests and threats currently being organised across our communities.

There is a difference between protest and the deliberate inflaming of fear, intimidation, and racism. Language encouraging people to “prepare to fight”, targeting vulnerable communities, threatening violence to people recording the protest, and spreading panic
online is not civic leadership. It is dangerous.

For decades, our centre has stood on the interface as a space of welcome, courage, and human dignity. We refuse to walk backwards toward that darkness again.

We stand in solidarity with everyone feeling frightened, targeted, or isolated tonight — particularly newcomer communities, minority ethnic families, and young people absorbing this atmosphere of hostility and fear.

Our response is rooted in nonviolence. Not passive silence. Not neutrality in the face of hatred. But the active, courageous refusal to dehumanise one another. Nonviolence means choosing to protect life over ego, relationship over rumour, and dignity over domination. It means believing that communities are strengthened not through fear, but through compassion, truth, and shared humanity.

Peace is not passive. Peace is the daily decision to protect one another’s humanity.

So we call on people to:
• reject rumours and inflammatory rhetoric
• refuse racism and scapegoating
• challenge hatred wherever it appears
• choose calm and compassion over intimidation
• stand together in defence of every person’s dignity and safety

Tonight, our doors remain open after 5.30pm not because we are naïve about the tensions that exist, but because we believe community must always be stronger than division.

From 6pm, there will be a community wide prayer vigil in the centre for peace on our streets. All are welcome to join us in prayer and solidarity.

The team visited the Bulawayo museum to learn about the history and culture of Zimbabwe. One of our highlights was a visit to Antelope Park where we got up close to many of the animals. It was an amazing experience and highlighted the beauty and creativity of God's handiwork.
