We’ve been incredibly fortunate as a branch to receive a grant from Pets Foundation aimed at helping prevent the heartbreaking relinquishment of animals especially in situations where a little support can make all the difference.
So far this year, the grant has made a real impact across our branch area of North Wilts and Newbury. It’s allowed us to step in during emergencies where urgent medical treatment was needed but funds just weren’t available. Without this help, many pet owners would have faced the devastating choice of giving up their beloved animals or worse, having to put them to sleep simply because they couldn’t afford care at the time it was needed.
Among those we’ve helped was a young cat suffering from pyometra, a life-threatening condition that required immediate surgery, thankfully, with the success of the surgery, they are now expected to enjoy many more happy years with the family who loves them deeply.
We also had the opportunity to support a dog who required urgent surgery on their leg. Without this procedure, there was a significant risk the leg would have been lost. Unfortunately, the only option available at the time would have involved the dog being relinquished in order to access the necessary treatment. Thanks to the grant, we were able to prevent that outcome. The dog received the care they urgently needed and, most importantly, able to remain in the comfort and security of their home with their family.
The difference this funding has made is immeasurable, It's been a joy to see so many pets recover and stay with the families who love them all because of timely support. We are so grateful to have had the opportunity to offer this kind of support when it’s needed most.
