Do you drive and have some spare time to help local cats?

Cats Protection Northumbria is looking for a Transport Volunteer.

Transport volunteers help connect the different parts of our work. This can include transporting cats to appointments or other locations and helping move food, litter and equipment where it is needed.

It is practical help that can make a real difference to the day to day running of the branch.

If you enjoy driving and would like a hands on way to support Cats Protection, you can read more and apply here:

🐾❤️ CAN YOU HELP MISTY? ❤️🐾

Poor Misty has had a really difficult time. Her owner sadly passed away and she was left living outside in the garden. Thankfully, a kind neighbour stepped in to feed and look after her while we worked on finding her a safe space.

Misty is now finally safe and warm in the care of Cats Protection Northumbria Branch. 🥹❤️

Unfortunately, her vet check has shown that she needs urgent dental treatment, so we’ve set up a little fundraiser to help towards the cost of getting her teeth sorted and making her comfortable again. 🦷🐱

If you could spare even £1 or £2, it all adds up and would mean so much. And if you can’t donate, please give Misty a share — that helps us too. ❤️

👇 Donate to Misty’s dental fund here:

Thank you for helping us give Misty the fresh start she deserves. 🐾💕

Today is National Pet Obesity Awareness Day.

Changes in a cat's weight can happen gradually, which means they are not always easy to notice when we see our cats every day.

If you are unsure whether your cat is a healthy weight, your vet or veterinary nurse can assess their body condition and advise you on an appropriate diet and portion size.

If your cat does need to lose weight, it should be done gradually and with suitable veterinary guidance. Sudden or unexplained weight changes should also be discussed with your vet.

A healthy weight is an important part of keeping cats comfortable and active throughout their lives.

If your cat goes missing, starting the search close to home is important.

Check your house carefully first, including cupboards, wardrobes, garages and sheds. Then ask neighbours to check their own sheds, garages and outbuildings.

Search nearby when it is quieter, calling your cat normally and pausing to listen. Contact local vets and animal organisations and make sure your cat's microchip details are up to date.

Cats can sometimes become shut inside somewhere without anyone realising, so checking enclosed spaces can be particularly important.

Sometimes helping a cat means helping the person who cares for them.

We are looking for a Supporting Cat Owners Volunteer.

This role focuses on providing information and support to cat owners, including people whose circumstances have changed or who are considering whether they can continue caring for their cat.

It can also involve helping people who are thinking about getting a cat and building links with organisations in the local community.

If you are a good listener, communicate well and would like to help cats and people together, this role may suit you.
