The Childhood Eye Cancer Trust (CHECT) is a UK charity dedicated to helping people affected by retinoblastoma, a rare form of eye cancer. We:

• Provide support and information to families and individuals.
• Fund research into the prevention and treatment of retinoblastoma.
• Raise awareness among health professionals and the public.
• Influence policy to improve services for patients. We know tha

t when a child is diagnosed, it can be a distressing and frightening time for everyone, and we are here to help. We also understand that for some people retinoblastoma can have a long term impact and we offer lifelong support for anyone affected – from diagnosis to adulthood. We’ve been helping families for nearly 30 years but we don’t receive any money from the government and we rely on public support to fund our vital work.

Hospital to Hospital challenge is returning this summer ☀️

Last year, we launched a virtual challenge and our supporters went above and beyond to fundraise and cover 122 miles, which is the difference between Birmingham Children's Hospital to Royal London Hospital!

Stay tuned for the launch of the Hospital to Hospital Challenge 2026!

Lab-based retinoblastoma research often uses static cell cultures that don’t reflect real tumours well. This webinar introduces a new “tumour-on-a-chip” system that mimics real conditions, enabling better study of tumour behaviour and faster, cheaper, ethical, high-throughput drug testing with more realistic and reliable results. A recording will be available after registration: https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/9417793763789/WN_BOsdD4LVRHWCI9ktFE41dg #/registration

We often feature our wonderful CHECT mums in our stories, and we feel it’s important to recognise those amazing dads out there who go above and beyond to support their families as well. Father's Day is fast approaching and we’re asking children (maybe with a bit of help) to nominate their dads for an honorary CHECT Champion Award.

The award-winning dads will be featured on our website and social media, plus each dad will receive a special certificate. To nominate a hero dad, please apply via our Google form: https://buff.ly/95ecBxI and tell us a bit about your dad and why he deserves an award — with the wording exactly as you'd like it to appear on the certificate, along with your name, age and a photo by 6th June. If you're unable to use the form, please email [email protected] with the same details.

Have you been affected by a rare and less common cancer – all cancers except breast, bowel, lung or prostate – either as a patient or a carer?

This cancer52 survey is aimed at people who have been diagnosed with a rare or less common cancer, including childhood cancers. Parents or carers may also complete the survey on behalf of a child or young person who has been diagnosed with cancer.

You can share honest feedback about your experiences, what worked, what didn’t, and where is the opportunity for change.
