Museum open day
Sunday 6 July
11am to 4pm
Southern at Lincolnshire Show
Southern at the recent Lincolnshire Show
We are open on Sunday 6 July 2025
We look forward to seeing you, your friends and families at the next of our regular monthly open days. We have plenty for you to see and explore. There are no age restrictions.
Experience new and old favourites at our rapidly evolving working museum. We are pleased to welcome back Southern, our 1968 vintage OB truck, after its starring role at the Lincolnshire show. Southern and other OB trucks will be in Studio 1 and outside. You can create the magic of TV lighting in our dedicated display.
We continue to develop our videotape and telecine areas, transmitter hall, production gallery and central apparatus room. There will be demonstrations of our RCA quadruplex 2” VTR. Don’t forget our displays of vintage cameras, microphones, other sound equipment and our ever-popular green screen.
In 2025 we will also open on the first Sundays of August, October and November. In September we will open on Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 as part of Heritage Open Days.
Would you like to help us on open days?
As a volunteer steward you will be welcoming our visitors and helping them to find their way round the museum. Specialist knowledge is not needed. Please contact us in advance if possible but if you arrive by 9:30 on the day we’ll be ready and waiting.

Will you be bringing donations of equipment, books etc?
May we ask a small favour please? If you are planning on bringing a donation of equipment on the open days could you please let us know in advance if possible so we can make arrangements to receive it. [email protected]
We now have improved procedures for receiving donated items. We will have forms and labels at reception so that all items can be properly identified. We have also put the forms on our website so you can list and label your items at home. We will allocate unique reference letters to each donor. Website Link: https://becg.org.uk/item-donations/
Refreshments
Tea and coffee will be available in Studio 2. You are welcome to bring a picnic to eat indoors or out. There are several cafés in the next door antiques centre serving meals and snacks. The closest café is less than five minutes walk from the Museum.

Finding us

Hemswell Cliff
Gainsborough
DN21 5XS
Hemswell Cliff is on the A631 road from Gainsborough to the A15 at Caenby Corner.
When you enter the village, you need the turning for Capper Avenue which is signposted “Primary School” and "BEM". Do not use the main Antiques Centres entrance as there is no easy way through to our site. Follow Capper Avenue past the green area and play park on your left, then turn left just in front of the bungalow. Follow the road around the back of our building and into the car park at the front.
Here is a map which should help you. If you can use “What Three Words”, our location is: seagulls.added.obtain

Disability Access
Those in wheelchairs or with limited mobility can park very close to the building. There is step‑free access to many parts of the museum. We regret we do not have a disabled toilet yet.
No dogs except registered assistance dogs. There will be a water bowl outside.
