The Shed at Forest Row Sheds are about social connections and friendship building, sharing skills and knowledge, and of course a lot of laughter.

Open Wednesdays and Saturdays, 10am-2pm Coming soon to Forest Row...................
Sheds are similar to garden sheds – a place to pursue practical interests at leisure, to practice skills and enjoy making and mending. The difference is that garden sheds and their activities are often solitary in nature while Sheds are the opposite. They’re about social connections and friendship building, sharing skills and knowledge, and of course a lot of laughter. Sheds are whatever the members (or Shedders as we call them) want them to be. Although labelled sheds, they often aren’t sheds at all. They can be empty offices, portable cabin’s, warehouses, garages, and in at least one case, a disused mortuary. Some Sheds are purpose built workshops, but they rarely start out that way. Many don’t have premises at all in the beginning and instead form a group that meets regularly for the social connection, company and camaraderie until they can find somewhere to kit out with tools. Many Sheds get involved in community projects too – restoring village features, helping maintain parks and green spaces, and building things for schools, libraries and individuals in need. Activities in Sheds vary greatly, but you can usually find woodworking, metalworking, repairing and restoring, electronics, model buildings or even car building in a typical Shed. Sheds typically attract older men, but many have younger members and women too. Whatever the activity, the essence of a Shed is not a building, but the connections and relationships between its members.

🐝 It was a hive of activity today at The Shed, Forest Row! 🔨

There was plenty going on, with something for everyone.

🌿 A lovely garden trellis was created by one member, cleverly made by cutting down some long pallets.

🏠 Another ever-popular bug hotel had its roof started.

🐱 The cat jigsaw and 🎪 a Jack-in-the-Box both received their first coat of paint.

🦇 A wonderful bat box, complete with its own bat logo, is almost finished and looking fantastic!

🌞 And, of course, someone managed to find a sunny spot to carry on with the ever-growing potting table.

☕🍪 Meanwhile, the tea and coffee were in full flow during the breaks — because no Shed day would be complete without plenty of refreshments and conversation!

Another busy and productive day at The Shed at Forest Row. 👍🔨

Not a normal Shed day today! 🔨

Several of us headed over to the Forest Row Village Club to finish building the bar tables ready for the Frow Show.

We were working around the stage crew, who were busy setting up the venue — so there was plenty going on! 🎪🔧

The tables are looking great, and with everything coming together, it looks like it’s going to be a fantastic event.

Well done to all the Shedders who helped get the tables finished! 👏🍻

🪚 How many table legs do you need?

Well… 40 have been made by The Shed at Forest Row! 😲

They’re all ready and waiting for the Frow Show, but that wasn’t all that was happening in the workshop today.

While some of the Shedders were busy making table legs, others were getting stuck into Christmas toys 🎄, a model sailing boat ⛵, and of course… another bird box 🐦!

It was a really busy day, with 11 people working away and plenty going on.

And then came tea break… ☕️
Let’s just say the number of tea and coffee orders was almost as impressive as the number of table legs! 🤔😂

Another busy and productive day at The Shed at Forest Row. 🪵🔨

Great news for anyone keen to try something new! Ian has been chatting with local pewter crafter Amanda Collins, and we’re excited to announce a set of hands‑on workshops at The Shed at Forest Row .

You’ll learn how to create your own framed pewter artwork, guided step‑by‑step by Amanda. A few of our members have already taken part in her sessions and absolutely loved them.

Upcoming workshops:

Tue 6 Oct, 10am–1pm — Beginners

Tue 13 Oct, 10am–1pm — Beginners

Tue 20 Oct, 10am–1pm — Advanced

Each workshop is £45 for members and £50 for non-members, with only 10 spaces available, so everyone gets plenty of personal support.

If you’d like to join in, just let us know and we’ll reserve your spot. Payment will be taken before the workshop.

Don’t miss out—spaces will go quickly!

🔨 It never stops at The Shed at Forest Row! 🔨

Today saw the start of the big build of the bar tables for the Frow Show. It was certainly unusual to see so much new timber being delivered to The Shed — but there was a very good reason for it: those tables are going to need it!

Meanwhile, the recycling and upcycling continued, with a lovely potting table with storage taking shape in the sunshine. ☀️🌿

And then there was the rather puzzling cat-shaped jigsaw, carefully cut from some old plywood. 🐱🧩

Some of our shedders took quite a while to work it out… although, as one of the passing children pointed out, they might have solved it a bit quicker! 😂

Another productive day, plenty of laughs, and proof that at The Shed, you never quite know what’s going to be made next!

The Shed at Forest Row has been busy starting an exciting new project: we’re making ten high tables for Froshow, who will be performing at the Village Club from 8 October.
Amid all the activity, we welcomed a newcomer to the workshop and started making some wonderful toys. We also enjoyed getting outdoors to work in the sunshine.

🔨 Another busy week at The Shed at Forest Row! 🔨
A few photos from last week, showing just some of what the “Shedders” have been getting up to.
There were planters, flower trugs, garden trellis and, of course, Patrick’s wonderful and rather unique chicken egg cup! 🐔🥚
Today, we took some of our creations along to the Chelwood Gate Market, where we had a stall selling a selection of our handmade items. Meanwhile, a few of the members stayed behind at The Shed and carried on with their projects.
All in all, another great week of making, chatting and enjoying ourselves.
A good time was definitely had by all the Shedders! 😊🔨
