This week’s news has been heavy.

The death of Professor Jason Arday has left a lot of people shaken and thinking about the intense pressure, scrutiny, and isolation that people can carry silently.

Please hear this: you are not alone, and you don’t have to carry it by yourself.

If you’re struggling, reach out — to a friend, a family member, a GP, or a helpline. Asking for help isn’t weakness. It’s the strongest thing you can do.

You matter. Please talk to someone. 💛

The trainer’s view

“I’ve seen a room change.”

That’s what teachers tell us after our sessions. A room full of students who came in thinking this topic was too difficult to talk about — and left knowing exactly what to say and do if a friend was struggling.

That shift is the whole point. We don’t just deliver a training session and leave — we equip people with something they’ll carry for life.

84 teachers trained. 4,500+ students reached face-to-face. And we’re just getting started.

One conversation can change everything.

If someone you love has gone quiet lately, here’s the good news: you don’t need perfect words to help.

Ask directly — “are you thinking about su***de?” It doesn’t plant the idea. It shows them they’re not alone.

Then listen. Stay close. Help them find support.

Small, simple, human — and it works. This training comes from people who’ve turned their own loss into something that saves lives.

Last month, a teacher on one of our courses spotted the signs in a student she’d taught for two years — signs she admits she wouldn’t have caught before.

That’s what this training is for.

The Oli Leigh Trust’s su***de-prevention programmes give school staff the practical skills to notice warning signs early and know exactly what to do next. Built on a family-led mission and an evidence-based curriculum, our courses are helping schools across the UK feel more confident, and more prepared, when it matters most.

If you’re a school leader, please reach out to us and we can talk to you about our courses in collaboration with Inspirational Learning Group

We’re more than training sessions and statistics — we’re a community.

We’re The Oli Leigh Trust, and everything we do traces back to one simple belief: no young person should ever feel alone with what they’re going through.

There are loads of ways to be part of that with us:
🏃 Run for us at events nationwide
⚽ Play in our 7-a-side tournament
💼 Give as You Earn through payroll
🤝 Become a corporate sponsor
🎉 Run your own fundraiser for us

However you get involved, you’re helping us reach the next school, the next family, the next young person who needs us.

Spotting the Signs 💙

You don’t need to be a professional to notice when someone’s struggling.

Withdrawing. Changes in mood or sleep. Talking like they’re a burden. These are worth paying attention to.

The intervention can be simple: ask directly, listen without rushing to fix it, stay — even without the right words.

You don’t have to have the answers. Sometimes you just have to be someone who noticed. 💙

Samaritans Awareness Day — 24 July

At The Oli Leigh Trust, we’re proud to shine a light on Samaritans and the vital work they do every single day.

Samaritans exist to prevent su***de through the power of human connection. That means:

- Connecting people in crisis with trained volunteers who will always listen
- People calling for change, met by those willing to listen
- People who’ve been there before, supporting those struggling now

Samaritans Awareness Day falls on 24 July for a simple reason — because they’re here to listen, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

This day is a chance for all of us to talk about the importance of being there for one another. Sometimes the smallest act — picking up the phone, sitting with someone, simply listening without judgement — can make the biggest difference.

If you or someone you know is struggling, Samaritans are free to call, any time, on **116 123**.

Let’s use this day to remind each other: you don’t have to be in crisis to reach out, and you don’t have to have the answers to listen.

💙 The Oli Leigh Trust

More to follow on this important day.

Let’s look after each other
