As the ways we capture and use feedback about patient experience continue to evolve, the question is not just what we collect, but what we do with it, and who it ultimately serves.

To close , our CEO Chris Graham shares his thinking on the role patient feedback will play in shaping the future of health and care.

01/05/2026

Organisations are getting better at gathering patient feedback. The harder question is what happens next.

Our CEO Chris Graham talks about what he calls the "last mile problem" in patient experience - the persistent gap between insight and action.

30/04/2026

Person centred care has never been more important, and yet the work of building organisations that consistently deliver this remains genuinely difficult.

This , our CEO Chris Graham speaks about why patient experience must remain a central focus for health and care, and what strong foundations for improvement actually look like in practice beyond strategy documents.

Picker's eight Principles of Person Centred Care set out what patients, families and carers consistently tell us matters most. Read the Principles here: https://pickerhwa.org/4cWOHTX

“The small things are not small at all. They make a huge difference.”

At the 2025 PEN Awards, paediatric nurse Freya Williams shared a powerful keynote on what patient experience really means – shaped by her journey living with Ehlers-Danlos syndrome and her perspective as both a patient and a professional.

From moments of fear and uncertainty to the impact of kindness, listening, and simply being present, Freya’s story is a reminder that care is experienced in human interactions, not just clinical outcomes.

Now working as a nurse in the same hospital where she was once a patient, Freya brings those experiences into her practice every day – showing how compassion, dignity and partnership can transform care.

This week is Patient Experience Week.

Running from 27 April - 1 May, brings a national focus to the people, approaches and collaborations that influence how patients, families and communities experience care.

To support teams and organisations to take part, we’ve brought together a range of resources, ideas and inspiration to help reflect on what good patient experience looks like in practice, share learning, and recognise the crucial role of staff, volunteers and leaders in delivering person centred care.

We’re proud to partner with CLL Ireland on their CLL Care Across Ireland Survey, which is now live. We’re inviting people living with chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL), as well as key members of their support network, to share their experiences.

Your insights will help shape patient resources, educational materials, and policy and awareness campaigns.

If you or someone you know is affected by CLL, please take part. The survey is confidential and takes less than 15 minutes. Your voice matters.

It’s Patient Experience Week this week, and if you’re looking for inspiration to mark this period, we have something worth revisiting.

Last month, we hosted a webinar bringing together the overall winner and a selection of category winners from the Picker Experience Network Awards to showcase what award-winning patient experience work really looks like; the thinking, the methods, the leadership behaviours and the approaches that make a difference.

There has never been a better moment to hear directly from teams who are doing this well. The recording covers high-impact projects from across health and care, what enables success, and practical, transferable approaches you can apply in your own organisation.

It’s a valuable watch for patient experience, quality and improvement teams, leaders preparing future award entries, and colleagues looking for proven examples to strengthen their own work.

As we mark Patient Experience Week, we’re highlighting what good looks like in liver transplant care from the patient perspective.

For the first time in the , a robust patient experience survey has been developed specifically for people who have undergone liver transplantation.

Working on behalf of the British Liver Transplant Group, we partnered with patients, clinicians and charities to create a tool that captures what matters most along the transplant journey – from communication and care coordination to post-transplant support and quality of life.

Piloted across seven transplant centres, the survey achieved a 60% response rate and delivered clear, actionable insights. It now offers services a meaningful way to listen, learn and improve, grounded in patients’ lived experience.

Patient Experience Week 2026 is an opportunity to reflect not only on why patient experience matters, but on how organisations can build the skills and capacity needed to improve it in practice.

At Picker, we support health and care organisations through a comprehensive course programme designed to strengthen person centred care, patient voice and experience-led improvement. Our training supports professionals at all levels to develop practical skills in areas including co-production, facilitation, experience measurement and quality improvement.

As part of Patient Experience Week, we are highlighting our Experience-Based Co-Design (EBCD) programme, one of our most highly regarded courses. EBCD provides teams with a structured, evidence-based approach to working in partnership with patients, carers and staff to understand lived experience and co-design meaningful improvements to services.

The programme has been widely adopted across health and care settings and supports organisations to move from insight to action, embedding patient experience at the heart of service design and improvement.

As part of Patient Experience week, we're sharing Lexi’s Letter, a reminder of why listening to children and young people is not just important, but essential.

Written by Lexi in December 2024, the letter is a personal reflection on her experiences. Lexi worked with Touch Design as creative director for the animation until her death, aged 14, in September 2025. The letter is read by her sister, Ella.

Lexi’s Letter offers a simple yet powerful way for teams to pause, reflect, and reconnect with what truly matters - the voices of the people they care for. It reminds us that children and young people are experts in their own lives and their views should actively shape how we design and deliver care.

What can we learn from international approaches to improving patient experience?

As part of the Picker Experience Network Awards, this webinar brings together award-winning international teams and shortlisted finalists to share how they have delivered impactful improvements in patient experience across different health systems.

The session will look beyond individual success stories to explore the shared challenges, common ambitions, and practical realities that shape patient experience work across borders. Drawing on real-world examples, speakers will reflect on what has worked in practice and what others can learn.

Designed for patient experience, clinical and quality improvement leaders, this session will offer practical ideas, transferable approaches, and inspiration from across the global healthcare community.
