Hello everyone,

We just wanted to check in and give you a quick update on the development and progression of the Temple of Play.

Things are still very much moving forward and there’s lots happening behind the scenes. We’re continuing with fundraising and have been incredibly lucky and grateful to receive some amazing grants and funding pots that will support specific projects and resources within Temple.

That said, we are still very open to — and hugely appreciative of — any additional funds or donations that the wonderful Ulverston community may be able to offer.

There are building works taking place on a daily basis. Currently, work is being carried out by the landlord, with our own planned works very much in the pipeline and due to begin in the near future. We’ve attached a few photos of the progress so far!

At the moment, timelines are changing week by week, so we can’t give an exact opening date just yet. However, we wanted to reassure everyone that Temple of Play is absolutely still happening, and we’re incredibly excited to see it all come together.

Thank you so much for all the continued support — it really does mean the world to us 🙏🏼

Support Ulverston’s first indoor play café and family hub. Donate, volunteer, or spread the word. Every action brings us closer to opening our doors.

Please help Alfie and his family 💖

This sweet boy is part of our community. He's been diagnosed with stage 4 neuroblastoma and is due to undergo intensive chemo, surgery, radiation and stem cell transplant this year.

They live here in the Lakes, but Alfie is being treated in hospital in Manchester. His parents are both self-employed and are under immense financial pressure travelling to and from MCR and staying over to support Alfie.

If you can spare a donation, it would be gratefully received, or if you're unable to donate, please share this with your networks 🙏

✨ Another thank you (and another happy dance!) ✨

We’re delighted to share that Ørsted has awarded Temple of Play £5,270 to support the professional play and café design of our space!

This funding is helping us take the ideas and needs of local families and turn them into a thoughtful, well-designed environment that truly works for children, the amazing humans who care for them, and the wider Ulverston community.

Having professional support at this stage is invaluable, and we’re incredibly grateful to Ørsted for believing in our vision and the role that play, creativity and community spaces can have locally.

Each piece of support brings us another step closer to opening the doors — and we can’t wait to start sharing more of what’s taking shape behind the scenes ✨

💫 Follow along to see the journey unfold and be part of what we’re building.

Please excuse the silly photo, but we’re silly excited to share that Temple of Play has been awarded £19,846 from National Lottery Awards for All 😍

We started Temple of Play because we believe Ulverston families deserve warm, welcoming spaces to gather, rest, play and connect with one another. After months (and months!) of hard work behind the scenes, planning, problem-solving, bid writing and keeping the faith, this support has truly allowed us to see the light at the end of the tunnel and we couldn’t be more grateful to everyone who has supported us along the way 💛

Thank you The National Lottery Community Fund for believing in our community and our vision. We can’t wait to share what comes next!!

🌿 Ulverston families - we’d love your thoughts! 🌿

We’re very close to signing the lease on the old Natwest Bank building in the town square to open Temple of Play, our community-led indoor play café for families with little ones aged 0-5.

It’s a big step for us, both financially, and in the time and love we’ll be pouring into the space, and before we go ahead, we want to check in with the people who matter most: YOU!

With the new 30 hours funded childcare rolling out, we want to make sure that an indoor play café, a warm, welcoming place to connect, relax, and let your little ones explore through play, is still something local families want and would use.

✨ If you have a moment, we’d be so grateful to hear your thoughts.

You can simply comment below to let us know:

• Would you use a family play café in the town centre?
• What would make it most helpful or enjoyable for your family?
• Are there any particular features, opening hours, or services you’d love to see?

Your feedback will help us make the right decision at a really important moment and ensure Temple of Play grows in the way this community truly needs.

Thank you, as always, for being part of this journey with us. 💛

As we enter the final term of the year, we're working extra hard in between school runs, tantrums and coat wrestling to secure more funding to create the beautiful play cafe we've all been dreaming of.

One of the ways we've found to help raise money for Temple of Play CIC is through a great website called easyfundraising which creates donations simply by YOU shopping online - awesome right?

easyfundraising turns your everyday online shopping into FREE donations when you use them to shop with over 8,000 retailers such as Amazon, John Lewis, Tesco, Argos and ASOS.

Those retailers then make a small donation to say ‘thank you’ and easyfundraising gives those free funds to Temple of Play CIC.

It means that anytime you fancy some new yogurt-free clothes, or you buy a Christmas gift for your little ones, or if you've decided to wait until Black Friday to get a mega deal on that new pram or winter family holiday, Temple of Play can receive funds without you having to part with any extra pennies. Win-win!

PLUS, once you've raised your first £5, easyfundraising will double it! Extra win-win!

There’s no catch or hidden charges and we will be really grateful for your donations - it means we'll be able to open our doors to you even sooner!

🌈 LOCAL SERVICE SPOTLIGHT 🌈

As we continue building our FREE, family-focused community directory, we’re shining a light on some of the amazing local services supporting parents, carers, and little ones here in Ulverston & South Cumbria.

This week we’re featuring:
🌟 Postpartum Doulas UK CIC & Postpartum Home Help 🌟

"Honouring every journey into parenthood.

Postpartum Doulas UK CIC and Postpartum Home Help work together to reimagine what care looks like after birth. We provide practical postpartum home help and a seven-week antenatal programme designed especially for partners and support people, ensuring families feel confident, connected, and cared for throughout every stage of the journey into parenthood.

Our mission is to make postpartum care accessible, inclusive, and deeply human. We believe that the weeks and months following birth deserve the same preparation, reverence, and community support as the birth itself. Through our trauma-informed and evidence-based approach, we hold space for every family, honouring your choices, culture, and story.

Our diverse team of postpartum doulas, lactation consultants, and perinatal mental health practitioners provide gentle, flexible support that meets you where you are. From practical home help and sibling care to emotional wellbeing and feeding support, we create a nurturing environment that allows recovery, bonding, and rest to unfold naturally.

At the heart of all we do are the values of inclusivity, compassion, autonomy, and evidence-led care.

We proudly support LGBTQIA+ families, Black, Asian and ethnic minority communities, and families living with visible or invisible disabilities. Every service is designed to empower birthing people and their partners to move through the postpartum period with confidence, dignity, and calm.

Together, Postpartum Doulas UK CIC and Postpartum Home Help are bringing back the village, one family, one home, and one gentle moment at a time."
