Next week at the Chapel 📣

Lady Isabel Burton was a formidable woman in the 19th-century. She is mostly remembered for being Sir Richard Burton's wife (if at all) but she was so much more than that.

Dr Helen Brown explores the life of Lady Isabel, her experience as an explorer, traveller, and writer, and her role in the building of the recently reopened Burton Mausoleum.

We had a fantastic day on Saturday welcoming 116 visitors on two sold out tours of Bazalgette's London! Thank you all for coming, we hope you enjoyed it as much as we did!

We drove on Bazalgette's embankments, past some of his bridges, and near the streets he redesigned. All the while we were travelling over Bazalgette's sewers which were working hard to keep up with the rain!

To learn more about our "Bazalgette and the Great Stink of London" project and the Bazalgette Mausoleum, head to our website.

Thank you to Lord Peter Hendy for the loan of his vintage Routemaster bus!

Next week at the Chapel, Dylan from the H&H Nature Team is exploring the varied world of ponds!

Ponds are a valuable habitat in urban areas and they support life from the smallest of invertebrates to larger urban mammals. Some species spend their lives under water, others lay eggs, and some use it to drink and wash.

Ponds don't have to be huge, you can create small freshwater habitats with recycled materials!
