Are you, or do you know someone who would benefit from a supported internship?

A supported internship is a real opportunity to step into the world of work with the right support behind you.

Designed for young people aged 16 to 24 with an Education, Health and Care plan, supported internships help you build the skills you need for a job while spending most of your time in a real workplace.

You will not be on your own. A job coach will support you and your employer every step of the way, helping you learn tasks, build confidence, and succeed at work.
Placements usually last 6 to 12 months and are designed to help you move into paid employment at the end.

You could gain experience in areas such as:
• Hospitality, cafés, restaurants, hotels
• Retail and customer service
• Administration and office work
• Horticulture and outdoor roles
• Facilities, maintenance, and cleaning
• Warehouse and stock roles

This is more than work experience. It is a chance to build confidence and independence, learn real skills employers are looking for, understand what a job is really like, and take a step towards paid work.

Most of your learning happens in the workplace, helping you learn by doing and preparing for real employment. If you want to try something new, gain experience, and start your journey into work, this is your opportunity.

Helping pupils understand the science behind our oceans

This term, pupils at Bodmin College took part in an engaging session exploring how chemistry affects the ocean and marine life.

The workshop helped pupils connect classroom learning to real environmental issues. They explored how human activity increases carbon dioxide levels and how this impacts the chemistry of seawater.

Through clear explanations and interactive quizzes, pupils learned how carbon dioxide dissolves in the ocean to form carbonic acid, making the water more acidic.

They then explored what this means for marine animals such as shellfish and corals, which rely on stable conditions to build strong shells and skeletons.
A hands-on experiment brought this learning to life. Pupils tested how weak acids affect materials like chalk and eggshells. By observing how these materials broke down, they were able to see first-hand how ocean acidification can weaken marine life.

The session supported pupils to:
• Understand how science links to real-world environmental challenges
• Build practical skills through observation and experimentation
• Develop teamwork and communication by sharing results
• Explore career pathways in marine science, conservation, and environmental work.

“I never thought about chemistry in the ocean or the impact we have on marine life. This lesson has helped me see what impact we are having on our oceans and how important a career in science could be for me.” – Pupil

Sessions like this help pupils see the importance of science beyond the classroom and understand how they can play a role in protecting the environment in the future.

Year 8 pupils at Treviglas Academy recently took part in the final session of the Catalyst Girls Cornwall project, supported by the Royal Society of Chemistry.

During this session, pupils explored how chemistry links to real careers, with a focus on industries. Through interactive activities and independent research, they discovered how the skills they develop in school connect to jobs in healthcare, engineering, environmental science, and more.

Pupils researched career pathways and created posters to present their findings. This helped them build confidence, develop research and communication skills, and gain a clearer understanding of the steps needed to reach their future goals.

One pupil shared:
“The session helped me feel more confident about science and the careers I could choose.”

At EBP, we have really enjoyed our time at Treviglas Academy. It has been a pleasure to work with such positive and engaged young people, and to support them in exploring careers in chemistry.

We would like to thank Treviglas Academy for their warm welcome, and Aimee for her support in making the sessions such a success.

Bringing science to life outside the classroom

This term, pupils from Bodmin College took part in an inspiring visit to Discovering42 in Bodmin, where they explored science in a creative, hands-on setting.

Through interactive exhibits made from up-cycled materials, pupils saw how science connects to real-world challenges such as sustainability and climate change. This helped them understand how classroom learning can be applied to everyday life.

A highlight of the visit was a mocktail workshop, where pupils experimented with layering liquids, changing colours, and exploring different textures.

These activities made key chemistry concepts, such as density and reactions, simple and engaging.

The experience supported pupils to:
• Build confidence by testing ideas in a safe, creative space
• Develop teamwork and communication skills
• Understand how science links to future careers in areas like engineering and environmental science

Experiences like this show pupils that learning can happen anywhere and that science offers a wide range of opportunities for their future.
