The Facts about the new Furlongs/Pury End Quarry
• More than 10,000 local residents exposed to hazardous dust, noise, and water pollution, with serious long-term health implications
• 6 days per week, 7am to 6pm
• Min. 9 years
• 110 extra lorry journeys daily onto the A5 and other roads, such as Cowpastures and the Spine Road
• Totally contravenes the Minerals Plan
• Nearly 50% bigger than the size allowed in the Minerals Plan
• Double the extraction amount allowed in the Minerals Plan
• Entrance/Exit onto A5 just south of new Cowpastures Roundabout, i.e. at a highly dangerous traffic spot, with multiple muddy lorries possibly queueing in a central “ghost junction”
• Type of operation completely different from what is laid out in the Minerals Plan - includes a quarry, Ready-Mix Cement Plant and a Mobile Materials Recycling Plant
• No proven demand for Pury Stone
• No proven local demand for crushed aggregates, meaning it will be transported away over longer distances
• Types of materials to be extracted: The site should primarily be for the extraction of building stone, however only 3% will be Pury Building Stone, the other 97% will be crushed aggregates
• Heritage Quarry Group are unable to irradicate all risks to local springs and private water supplies
• Conflict of Land Use boundary / Dust & Noise and Health – The Minerals Plan stipulates a boundary to ensure housing and quarries are a safe distance from each other. The housing for the Towcester Expansion that has already been built along with the recreation facilities and community centre now falls within the boundary.
• Neither new or existing residents at The Furlongs were informed
• Not an extension of the existing quarry, but a new operation
• 8 jobs associated with the operation, retaining existing Heritage Quarry workforce
