This week, thousands of children and young people are going (back) to school - returning to friends, teachers and classes, moving school or starting for the first time! There are all sorts of different feelings, experiences and transitions that come with this and we'd love you to join with us in praying as this new term starts. Here are some ideas of things you can be praying for:

❤️ Children and young people who may be anxious about starting school this week for whatever reason
❤️ Children moving or starting a new school for the first time this week - this is a big change, prayers for peace, feeling safe and good settling in
❤️ Teachers and school staff welcoming new children and classes and being able to come back refreshed and ready
❤️ Parents and carers who have children starting (or moving) school for the first time and the adjustment that brings to home life
❤️ The NISCU team as we prepare to go back into schools - for God's leading in preparation and good reception from the schools

More of what we've been up to over the summer:

At the end of July I (Jonny) and two lads joined a youth camp in Czechia, helping to teach English and joining in with all the games and activities. It was great to see the Czech leaders sharing their faith and teaching the youth, and it was a privilege to be able to give the gospel message on the Wednesday night and see so many of them respond in different ways! God was definitely doing a lot of work in hearts and lives, and we came back encouraged by what God is doing in Czechia and to have played a small part in it!

It's great to have ongoing, lasting partnerships like this across the world!

Last week Abi from our team was down at a Bible camp in South Devon sharing from the book of Ruth across the week at DCYC: Devon Christian Youth Camps. There were 68 10-14 year old girls hungry to learn more about God and grow in faith.

We had some wonderfully encouraging responses from girls who had heard from God for the first time, grown in their trust of Him and experienced answered prayer.

Some of the girls shared how they loved camp but were worried about carrying on in faith when they are back home or back in school, particularly if there weren't many Christians in their school or they weren't regularly going to church. As we prepare for the coming term and getting back into schools, we can be praying for all young people who have come off summer camps and festivals. What an opportunity we have in our local schools to be supporting those who may be in this situation and learning what it looks like to follow Jesus in the every day!

We have been going around with our Y6 ‘Moving up to High School’ lesson - between us we have 31 of these lessons booked in. As we go round the last few, it has been great to hear the children’s big dreams for their futures from; being a better person, being the world’s best YouTuber, being a professional footballer, making a huge impact for good for animals and “to be someone who makes other people happy after a tiring day”. 🥰

We have budding marine biologists, palaeontologists, actors, farmers, dancers, rappers and much much more and it is wonderful to be able to help them even a little bit on their journey to this.

Let’s be praying for our year 6s in their time of change. There are many mixed feelings about it and it’s a joy to be able to share Philippians 4:6-7 with them, “do not be anxious about anything but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God which transcends all understanding will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

We look forward to reconnecting with a lot of these children in secondary school!

Last week, I (Abi), was teaching a year one lesson on Baptism in a community primary school. At the beginning of the lesson, they told me the only stories they knew from the Bible were Noah's Ark and their Nativity play. Throughout the lesson we didn't even get onto our usual worksheet or craft because of all the questions they were keen to ask! Here are the questions our 5 and 6 year olds are asking:
- Is Jesus still alive today?
- Can we go and see Him?
- What does Heaven look like?
- What does Heaven feel like?
- What have you got to do to go to Heaven?
- How did Jesus come down from Heaven?
- How did Jesus go back up to Heaven?
- How old is Jesus now?
- Why did Jesus choose to die with other criminals?
- Did God get baptised?

Let's be praying for all these spiritually inquisitive children we get to encounter day by day!

At last! The news you've all been waiting for. Our annual celebration evening is happening at the end of June and you're ALL invited. It's family friendly, so feel free to bring children/young people. There will be a suitable gap if you want to take them home part way through.
