Today is FINALLY the day that Pernod and Harp head off to their forever home as working gals.

These two ladies have spent their time with us making it abundantly clear that human contact will not be tolerated, and they’ve approached life at the rescue with an admirable level of hostility.

They’ve successfully raised their kittens, although whether they’ve taught them any manners is highly debatable, and now it’s time for them to enjoy the life they’ll love most, with plenty of space, lots of freedom, and as few people as possible.

While they may not have won over many hearts here at the rescue, we’re absolutely delighted they’ve found the perfect home for exactly who they are.

Good morning from Dubonnet, Martini, Cinzano, Oranjeboom, Hofmeister and Tennent!

These tiny little beans are now at the age where they demand constant attention, have discovered their voices, and firmly believe every waking moment should be spent causing as much mischief as possible.

We’ve got two separate litters here, and brownie points to anyone who can guess both naming themes!

Nero’s story ❤️

Nero originally came through Hector’s House and was adopted three years ago.

Recently, he sadly found himself back in our care and it quickly became apparent that all was not well.

Poor Nero had been living in a buster collar for a very long time and was struggling with severe itching, sore skin and discomfort. He was having a very difficult time.

Since returning to us, Nero has undergone further veterinary investigations to get to the bottom of what was causing his problems.

Following proper allergy testing, we’ve discovered that Nero is allergic to certain mites and moulds, allowing us to put together a treatment plan tailored specifically to him.

Nero has also moved into one of our wonderful foster homes, and the transformation has been incredible.

His skin is healing, he’s much more comfortable, and best of all, he’s finally free from the buster collar that had become such a big part of his life.

Seeing Nero happy, comfortable and able to enjoy being a cat again has been wonderful.

Sometimes the answer isn’t simple, but with the right support, diagnosis and treatment, lives can be completely changed.

We’re so proud of how far he’s come and can’t wait to see what the future holds for this lovely happy little boy!

Come and see us tomorrow!

We’ll be at the Babbacombe Midsummer Street Party tomorrow from 12pm–6pm on Reddenhill Road with our Hector’s House Cat Rescue stall!

We’ll have plenty of information about what we do, ways you can help local stray cats, and lots of lovely goodies available to help raise funds for the cats in our care.

If you’re heading to the event for the food, music, games and festivities, be sure to pop over and say hello!

We’d like to properly introduce our handsome boy, Prince Tom the First!

This little cutie is still keeping his true personality under wraps while he settles into rescue life, and sadly we know very little about his past. What we do know is that he’s an absolutely gorgeous boy who deserves a bright future.

Prince Tom has recently been castrated and, as soon as a foster space becomes available, he’ll be heading into a home environment where we can get to know the real him.

Rescue centres can be overwhelming places, and many cats need a little time away from the hustle and bustle before their true colours begin to shine.

For now, we’ll let him settle in and continue his journey with us. We have a feeling there’s a wonderful cat waiting to emerge beneath that handsome face!

Good morning from Gemma
She has decided to celebrate her last morning with us by making an absolute mess at breakfast! Food everywhere, a very happy face, and not a single regret!

Today is a very special day for this sweet girl as she heads off to her forever home. We can’t wait to see her start her next chapter and wish her all the happiness in the world!

As you know, we deal with a lot of feral cats here at Hector's House Cat Rescue and we're very fussy about where we rehome them.

It's very important that their new keepers understand that they still require care & support AS WELL as food & shelter.

A feral cat rehomed by us was seen limping via cctv in his barn. His caregiver was very concerned and contacted us immediately. The limping continued for several days so we took up and set a trap in the hope of securing him for medical treatment.

Late last night he finally succumbed to the trap and Clive rushed to Okehampton to collect him. He was then taken immediately to the Emergency Out-of-hours Griffiths Veterinary Centre in Ashburton, where the vet Jourdan was waiting to administer much-needed pain relief.

Further x-rays revealed a break in 2 places.
Due to this specific cat's needs, and the type of alternative home he's in, his keeper was more than happy to continue to care for him so he underwent amputation.

He will now recover for a week or two before returning to his home.

This is not necessarily the same decision we'd make for all feral cats - each set of circumstances needs carefully considering as to what is best for that specific cat.

The Far From the Madding Crowd kittens have discovered that mum has officially retired from childcare duties… and they’re making the most of it!

With nobody keeping them in line anymore, they’re free to zoom, climb, wrestle, explore and generally cause as much kitten chaos as possible!
