A big thank you to the folks in the Rhondda and especially Treherbert for raising the funds to send a SHELTERBOX to the recent Nepal Disaster.

The Gurkhas helped us during the terrible mountain and forest fires we had last Month, now they are struggling after the floods and landslides in their country.

We want to pay it back, all the money we raise this past week went towards a shelter box.

Shelter box is an international charity that sends urgent help to anywhere in the world that needs it, tents, mosquito nets, urgent medical supplies, anything!

It is that time of year again! The Big Rhondda Raffle tickets are going out to local groups and organisations. They sell the tickets they keep the money & Rhondda Rotary provide the prizes.

Last years raffle had 55 groups involved selling with £18,000+ going back into the community.

Draw date 16th November - in time for Xmas.

A Pop-Up in the Park family fun day was organised by North Rhondda Fawr Neighbourhood Network Partners on Wednesday 26th August 2026 at Rhondda Tennis Club, Treorchy.

Rhondda Rotary had a stall at the event to promote the Club and work it does raising funds to support individuals and organisations within the Rhondda Community.

At the event, a “Teddy Bear Tombola” was held, with 50 Teddy Bears of all sizes, on offer at 50p per go.

Needless to say, all the Bears were snapped up, with everyone going away happy.

Big thanks to the organisers of the event which was very enjoyable.

The new Rotary Year starts on the 1st July, where a new President is installed for the next 12 months.

This year's new president, is in fact last year's outgoing President Martyn Lyons, who has agreed to take on the role for another year.

As there was technically no "New" President for the year, an official ceremony was not needed, but it was felt that the occasion should be recognized anyway.

On Monday 20th July a pleasant and enjoyable afternoon was had by the Rotarians and their guests at the Old School Tea Rooms, Pentre, with an excellent buffet prepared by the Tea Rooms and fantastic entertainment by Amanda Jane.

The event was also significant in that not only was it the 70th Anniversary of the installation of the first President of Rhondda Rotary, GDR Metford, back in 1956, but also the 70th Birthday of the current President, Martyn. (He won't mind it being mentioned).

Rhondda Rotary hosted a Charity Event with Treorchy Male Choir and Guests on Thursday 9th July 2026, to raise funds for Rhondda Polar Bears, who are celebrating their 50th year.

A very enjoyable and successful evening was had by all who attended and a big thank you goes out to you all.

Also a big thank you to everyone involved in making the evening a success, including Pentre Comrades Club, Treorchy Male Choir and Guests and to the Rotarians involved in organising the event, especially Dan Owen-Jones.

Rhondda Rotary are having a Summer Collection at ASDA Tonypandy today until 5:00pm.

If you’re visiting the store and and are in a position to make a donation, no matter how big or small, it would be greatly appreciated.

All funds raised will be used to support individuals and organisations alike, within the Rhondda Community.

Rhondda Rotary are hosting a Charity Event with Treorchy Male Choir and Guest Vocalist on Thursday 9th July 2026, to raise funds for Rhondda Polar Bears, who are celebrating their 50th year.

Additional funds raised will be used to support other charities, within the Rhondda Community.

Rhondda Rotary held their fundraising Ascot Races Day on Thursday 18 June.

The weather was good and food was excellent again, which added to a very successful and enjoyable days racing.

The event raised just over £1,400, which is all thanks to the guests who showed their generous support by attending the day.

The money raised will be used to support various projects including Defibrillator Maintenance, Dementia Groups and Youth Development Schemes.

Rhondda Rotary are greatly appreciative to everyone who attended.

A big thank you also to Jan and the staff at Rhondda Golf Club for the excellent food and service provided, and to Dave Ritchie for providing the fantastic entertainment, to end the evening on a high.

A fantastic effort from all the groups involved, 13 of them across both valleys.

Dementia Friends Ambassador, Alison, has been busy collaborating with local businesses to produce 100 forget me nots to display in Rhondda Fach and Rhondda Fawr during last month and throughout the in June.

We think they look fantastic!

Alison said: “Over the last few weeks I have collaborated with Chris Williams, Workers Gallery Ynyshir and Martyn Lyons, President of Rhondda Rotary Club, to produce the forget me nots. Chris has designed and cut out the forget me nots and I glued all the bits together! Rhondda Rotary has financed the project via their dementia fund.

"The aim is to display them in various venues. In Ynyshir we collaborated with the local British Legion Branch to display them on the war memorial railings. They look absolutely fabulous. We also scaled some lampposts in the village.

"There are lots of different groups in the Rhondda who are displaying them, including community centres and local chapels!”
