Welcome to the thousands of visitors heading to our beautiful coast for The Open this week. As the 151st championship tees off at the Royal Liverpool Golf Club, Hoylake RNLI’s volunteer crew will be ready to swing into action 24/7 if anyone gets into difficulty. That’s par for the course for our lifesaving charity.
If you’re planning to enjoy our local beaches, follow our top tips for staying safe:
🏖️ Visit a lifeguarded beach and swim between the red and yellow flags
🌊 Check the tide times, weather forecast and local safety signage
👀 Stay aware of your surroundings and plan enough time to safely return to shore
🛟 If you get into trouble in the water, stay calm, lean back, spread your arms and legs like a starfish, and
📱 Always carry a means of calling for help
🆘️ In an emergency at the coast, call 999 and ask for the Coastguard
