The ACLT (African Caribbean Leukaemia Trust) Official page for blood cancer charity ACLT (African Caribbean Leukaemia Trust).

A charity with a key aim to register people onto the stem cell, blood and organ donor registers, to ensure no lives are lost due to a donor not being available. ACLT, formed in 1996, is a voluntary charity whose primary objective is to increase the number of ethnic minorities on the UK stem cell register and blood donation register. In 2010, the ACLT included increasing the number of ethnic minori

ties on the NHSBT organ donor registers as part of its aims. The charity was founded by Beverley De-Gale and Orin Lewis, parents of former Leukaemia sufferer Daniel De-Gale to provide hope and a healthy future to someone whose disorder may otherwise prove fatal.

Today is a milestone day.❤️

On 16th June 1999, at 6:45pm, Daniel De-Gale received a life-saving stem cell transplant at Great Ormond Street Hospital, thanks to his donor, Doreene Carney.

Daniel’s journey inspired the creation of ACLT. What began as one family’s search for a donor led to one of the UK’s largest stem cell donor drives and, ultimately, a charity that has spent 30 years saving lives.

As we celebrate our 30th anniversary, we’re reflecting on the power of one donor, one family, and one decision to make a difference.

Today, as we celebrate 30 years of ACLT, we’re reflecting on the life and legacy of the person who inspired it all: Daniel De-Gale.❤️

This footage was captured at Daniel’s 39th Birthday Blood Drive, where family, friends, and supporters came together to honour his memory, share stories, and continue the lifesaving mission that began with his journey.

When Daniel was diagnosed with leukaemia at just six years old, Beverley De-Gale Obe and Orin Lewis Obe embarked on a search for a stem cell donor that would ultimately lead to the founding of ACLT in 1996. What started as a fight to save one life has grown into three decades of advocacy, awareness, and action, helping to save and improve countless lives across the UK and beyond.

Thirty years later, Daniel’s legacy continues to bring people together, inspire change, and remind us why this work matters.

To everyone who has supported ACLT over the last 30 years, thank you! This milestone belongs to all of us.

Happy 30th Anniversary, ACLT. ❤️
