Sessay Community First Responders

Sessay Community First Responders Sessay Community First Responders were established in July 2010 and work in partnership with the Yorkshire Ambulance Service in our local area.

As authorised volunteers for the ambulance service we work as part of a dedicated team whose aim is to reduce the number of pre-hospital deaths in Yorkshire. We are trained by YAS in Basic Life Support, CPR, use of Oxygen and the Defibrillator. In many medical emergencies, the first few minutes are critical and if effective treatment can be provided within that time, lives can be saved, and that's

where we come in. We all have full time jobs but believe what we are doing is a real benefit to our local community. We not only cover the village of Sessay but also, Dalton, Topcliffe, Bagby, Thornaby, Helperby and all areas in between.

AMBER HEAT WARNING:

The Weather health alerting system is provided by the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) in partnership with the Met Office.

Risk Description -
Significant impacts are likely across health and social care services due to the high temperatures, including:

a rise in deaths, particularly among those aged 65 and over or with health conditions. There may also be impacts on younger age groups.
likely increased demand on all health and social care services
internal temperatures in care settings (hospitals and care homes) may exceed the recommended threshold for clinical risk assessment.
the heat affecting the ability of the workforce to deliver services.
indoor environments overheating increasing the risk to vulnerable people living independently in community and care settings.
issues managing medicines.
staffing issues due to external factors (for example, affecting transport).
increased demand for power exceeding capacity.
other sectors starting to observe impacts (for example, travel delays).
water‑related incidents may increase, including risks from cold‑water shock and drowning.

Time commitment - 20 hours per month.
Flexible hours
Training for the role - Pre Course eLearning - 4 days initial training plus some online training.

What you will need - Your own car and a full UK driving licence.
