Volunteers have been out at HRAP again today - this time eight bags of play chips into the zip-wire enclosure to make sure everything is safe and well maintained. This involved a delivery to a local farm earlier this week, transport down to HRAP and four volunteers to sling the bags and spread it out. A quick job in the end - probably no more than an hour or two of people’s time, but essential for keeping the park safe and well managed. Playgrounds are costly to maintain - this delivery of bark chipping cost us £844 from Farnabys. Please consider donating or offering your time as a volunteer - email [email protected]

PLEASE READ - it’s so disappointing that after all the hard work of the volunteers at HRAP we find this vandalism. This is the North Gate entrance on the Northallerton Road. We have had to lock this entrance because of repeated dog fouling not being picked up and parked cars blocking the entrance for maintenance vehicles. Please can you all be vigilant and help us make sure everyone respects this great community facility.

Pedestrian access to the Hillside Scouts Hall only, until Thursday 18th June, will be via the small pedestrian gate – please either walk or park sensibly away from the crossroads.

Many thanks for your understanding.

Please note that the gates at HRAP are locked at dusk every day unless activities are occuring in the Scout Hall. We recently had an incident where someone, returning late to their car, has cut and removed our lock and chain. We will need to replace both and it is just another cost and hassle that we could really do without.

Just a reminder we are looking for new members to join our existing committee.

This year’s AGM is this Wednesday, November 12th @ 7:00pm in The Wheatsheaf Inn, Borrowby.

The Hillside Rural Activities Park is a fantastic community facility however it needs your help.

We are looking for new members to join our existing committee following a number of members who have stepped down after serving their term. We currently have representatives from the founding clubs and also the trustees, but we really need more representatives from each of the local villages / parishes to help.

The committee meets 6 times each year (usually in the Wheatsheaf Inn in Borrowby) and we agree on what improvements we can make; the various organisations that wish to hire the facility; how events run; maintenance, safeguarding and equipment we may need to purchase; funding and grant opportunities.

There is also an active group of volunteers that help with the maintenance and upkeep of the facility and a fundraising group that organises events such as the fantastic November bonfire and fireworks display.

So, if you live in the Borrowby, Knayton or the Hillside Parishes and would like to help your community to continue to manage and maintain this great facility, get in touch. HRAP needs motivated members of the community to continue the great work that is being done.

The Barn @ HRAP – Important Update

We are really pleased that in the last few weeks HRAP have finally purchased the barn and the small area of land from the former landowner. The committee have been working hard to raise the funds needed since the Hillside Rural Activities Park first started back in 2004 and now, thanks to all the grant applications and a local donation, we have been able to complete the purchase.

In the next few weeks, you will see some activity with contractors tidying up the building, making it secure and removing sections that are unsafe. Over the next few months, the committee will consider how best we can consult and decide on the next steps. In the meantime, please be aware of the activity on the park and be considerate to the contractors on site.
