Our learners on work experience with the Wigan Assisted Gardening Services Team, recently worked on tidying both the front and back gardens for a private customer. 🌿

Using a lawnmower, strimmer, hedge trimmer and brushes, the learners worked well together and showed fantastic teamwork throughout the task. They successfully worked towards their SMART targets and did a first-class job.

All areas were swept and cleaned afterwards, with appropriate PPE worn throughout. 👏

Our learners on work experience at Orchid House Coffee Shop have been continuing to develop their maths and workplace skills by following a recipe to make homemade carrot and coriander soup. 🥕

Learners followed instructions carefully, prepared ingredients and used their maths skills to accurately measure and weigh ingredients throughout the task.

Fantastic effort shown by everyone involved whilst developing practical cooking and independence skills. 👏

The Wigan Assisted Gardening Services Team recently received a call from a local councillor requesting support for a local pensioner who had experienced ill health and could no longer maintain what he described as his “pride and joy” hedge. 🌿

With the support of Fir Tree work experience learners, the team used hedge trimmers and shears to carefully carry out the job. Although the team had completed hedge work before, this was one of their biggest projects to date.

Our learners were fantastic throughout, showing great teamwork and responsibility, with all cuttings cleaned up and removed afterwards. The customer was over the moon with the result and has already asked for the team to return next month. 👏

Our learners on work experience at Orchid House Coffee Shop have been practising their maths skills in the workplace by following recipes and making a delicious rocky road. 🍫

Learners followed instructions carefully, used measuring equipment and applied their maths skills to accurately weigh out ingredients throughout the task.

A fantastic way to develop practical workplace and independence skills. 👏

Our learners on work experience with the Wigan Assisted Gardening Services Team were tasked with tidying the area around the bowling green at Alexander Park. 🌿

Using a lawnmower, trimmer, half-moon spade and edging shears, the team made a great start on one of the lawns. This is a long-term project which gives learners the opportunity to experience a full range of gardening tasks and develop their practical skills over time.

Our learners on work experience at Orchid House Coffee Shop recently took part in some random acts of kindness by writing positive quotes and messages on lunch boxes. 😊

This activity helped learners explore the importance of kindness, positivity and making a difference to somebody’s day, whilst also developing their confidence and communication skills.

A lovely activity with some fantastic messages shared. 👏

Our learners on work experience with the Wigan Assisted Gardening Services team worked hard on a private garden.🌿

They used a lawnmower, trimmer, edging shears and leaf blower, all taking turns to use the different tools safely and responsibly. Learners also ensured appropriate PPE was worn throughout and left all areas tidy, resulting in a very happy customer 👏

There has been lots of teamwork and independence building taking place during work experience at The Gates Wigan this week 👏

Our students have been learning how to assemble takeaway boxes, becoming more confident with menu prices and developing their social skills whilst enjoying lunch together.

It has been great to see everyone supporting one another and growing in confidence throughout the sessions ☕

Our learners on work experience at Orchid House Coffee Shop have been practising their money skills by serving one another and giving the correct change. ☕💷

They have also been carrying out daily workplace tasks such as stock checking and restocking, helping to build their confidence and independence within a busy working environment.

Our learner on work experience with Orchid Bloom Florist has been working hard developing his floristry knowledge and practical skills. 🌸

He has been learning flower names, understanding when different flowers are in season and gaining hands-on experience creating floral gifts.

It has been fantastic to see his confidence and skills continue to grow throughout the placement. 👏
