Thaxted Twinning Association has been twinned with St. Association Saint-Vrain Jumelage for nearly 30 years. We have enjoyed many family visits to them and in they in return love coming back to us. The visits are just a long week-end and the only cost involved is the Euro Star train for Thaxted Twinning members. Children of members GO FREE. We host and entertain them when they come here and they host and entertain us when we return the next year.
It is ideal for families in both Thaxted and St. Vrain France to have a short break without paying for accommodation and having days out and entertainment in a home environment. Many of us in Thaxted Twinning have made firm friends with our twinning families and often visit during the year without the need for an organised visit.
However - Our next visit to St. Vrain (France near to Paris) is coming up 5th - 8th June 2026. We are only asking £50 per adult member of Thaxted Twinning for the Euro Star return and their children GO FREE! Costs are rising on Euro Star for us to hold this price from our funds. We already have booked seats for some of our members.

Our twinning town of St. Vrain have many young families who visited Thaxted last year and had a great time with us. It would be a shame if Thaxted Twinning could not do the same for 2027. Thaxted Twinning has been twinned for over 25 years with St. Vrain France. This June our French friends had an amazing time with our members of Thaxted Twinning in Thaxted. This is for adults and children in Thaxted and surrouding areas. Children travel free with their parents - the only cost involved is the Euro Star from London to Paris for the adults and the stay is completely Free for 3 days in one of our well known families. We all join up together and have days out and adventures/meals. Great way to have a short visit with your family near to Paris - and also be looked after by Thaxted Twinning and our host families!
This is a super way to have a short stay and make friends without costing much and having a go at speaking French. Most of our friends in St.Vrain Association Saint-Vrain Jumelage speak English.

Many thanks to THAXTED Singers who entertained THAXTED Twinning and our French guests from our twinned town of St. Vrain last Thursday 29 May in our wonderful Guildhall in THAXTED! Their rendition of La Marseillais was much applauded. They also regaled us with “The THAXTED Song, Chanson d’Amour, Sweet Caroline, We’ll Meet Again.” It was a superb way to welcome our twinning friends! They loved it! THANK YOU THAXTED Singers for all your hard work.

THAXTED TWINNING ASSOCIATION & SAINT VRAIN JUMELAGE (France) 2025

Our 25th Anniversary of our EXCHANGE VISITS! It was a great long week-end and so many thanks to all involved! It is all about friendship and families!

Thurs 29 May – 1 June - 28 guests including 7 YOUNGER FAMILY MEMBERS. These were all hosted by our Thaxted Twinning members.

This is what we did: Our guests arrived from taking the ferry Calais to Dover VIA their coach to Thaxted Guildhall at 18.00 - all on time 29 May. We had a reception for them in our historic Guildhall with drinks and various nibbles. Thaxted Singers entertained us with several songs and everybody joined in – Thanks to Thaxted Singers and to Guild Hall for a great venue. Our French guests then were taken by our Thaxted Twinning host families for an evening meal at their houses and chats in English or French or whatever they wanted to do!

Friday 30 May – We took our French Guest accompanied by a few of our members To Audley House & Gardens, Saffron Walden. French translations were given regarding info about the house and gardens and also a map.

Friday 30 May – After visiting Audley End House and Gardens, we took our guests and some of our members to have a wonderful 3 course meal at Little Easton Manor. IT WAS OUTSTANDING QUALITY OF FOOD AND SERVICE. Our French friends mostly opted for Fish and chips for main meal and all said, “BEST THEY HAD EVER HAD BEFORE”!

Sat 31 May - Free day where hosts take their families on other trips during the day. Some took them to London and Cambridge – some stayed local. It is really left open to ask their guests. When we return next year to St. Vrain – they will ask the same questions. We pay nothing when we return apart from transport to St. Vrain from St Pancras.

Sat 31 May – Our Evening Party for our French Guests/hosts/members/friends of Thaxted Twinning – 70 people attended. It was another great night with food and music and dancing at Radwinter Pavillion.

Sunday 1 June - We sadly said au revoir at 8.30 am at the coach park in Thaxted.

Thaxted Twinning Association had a great morning with Thaxted Primary School 16 May 2025 and enjoyed celebrating 'French Day'! It was such fun to see the children dressed up with their berets and French outfits. We visited several classes and played a game of Lotto (Bingo) in French learning to count from 1 - 100.
