A huge thanks to Chrissy McKay from the Scotland team for doing the track overlays for us - blue is the "lost" dog and the other colours are the assessed dogs.

Lost dog network people are just the loveliest helpful lot and im very grateful for all the help ive had to build this team up.

Massive amounts of wind in the afternoon venue made for tricky conditions and quite persistent rain hit the morning assessment - so definitely not an easy time at all for our 6 dogs and handlers.

They did brilliantly!

Can you help us??
We are looking for areas to train our tracking dogs in - for both regular sessions but also for our cpd days and our Level 3 Assessment in April.

After the level 3 we will potentially have a team of 7 Operational Tracking dogs in Cumbria ready to help search for lost dogs.

We need space to lay up to 6km of track for the level 3 - over field, woodland semi rural areas.

Our dogs work one at a time on lead and are under control.

We would also need parking for up to 7 cars.

Our team are all voluntary- we pay for our cpd out of our own pockets because we want to help..

If you think you could help- even if the area isnt as big as the ideal please get in touch.

Video below is Jeff finding the article from a track left by one of the other dogs.

Excellent session for all of the handlers and dogs.
Great to see the dogs doing what they do best.

Wishing all of our followers a very Happy New Year and there will be lots of training for you to follow in the New Year!

Not the outcome we hoped for -
Sam has been found and is over Rainbow Bridge.
We set off to track Sam but just before we arrived he had been found.
All our sympathies to his owners and thank you to Candice from kenzies k9s and James for their work today in locating him.

"My heart has joined the thousand for my friend stopped running today."

Rest in Peace Sam

The team have been busy training over the past 7 days, and the weather has definitely put the dogs through their paces! 🌧️🐾 Heavy rain can wash away scent and make tracking much tougher—and we’ve had plenty of it in Cumbria this week.
Here are some of the tracks completed by our handlers and their dogs, with a great mix of lengths, ages, and environments. Awesome work from everyone involved! 👏🐕

Introducing Jo, Sam & Luna - here's a quick chat we had earlier this week!

🔸️WHATS LUNA’S REWARD WHEN SHE’S TRACKING?
Luna’s reward is a Tugg-E-nuff Powerball or being allowed to keep tracking

🔸️WHY DID YOU START LOST DOG TRACKING COURSE?
We started LDT as Luna loves using her nose to find things and we wanted to put it to good use.

🔸️WHATS BEEN THE BEST BIT FOR YOU?
The best bit for us is watching Luna’s confidence grow, she was only 10 months old when we did our Level 1 and she was still understanding the world. It’s great to see how excited she is when we meet the team for training, then when we start tracking she’s highly focussed and driven. The team have nicknamed her the Lunatic.

🔸️TELL US SOME THINGS LUNA LIKES?
Luna loves running really fast, she’s happiest when she’s running around on walks. She really enjoys playing with her toys, she’s very good at playing football, she bats the ball with her paws. When she’s not playing football, she adores playing tug. Finally, once she’s tired she enjoys a cuddle and curling up next to you.
