Why am I studying Educational Psychology if I am not going to be a traditional educational psychologist assessing children in schools? Why am I studying a Masters to open an alternative learning center? Can't I just go out and do it now, get a space and play with children in nature? Well yes I could. But I hold a high standard, and I believe knowledge and understanding of child development and education give me an underlying foundation that makes my work better and more impactful.

It's very difficult to get myself to the desk to study while the sun is out, especially when the current module in statics and research 😬

Hoping to get a few solid hours in so I can go to the beach tomorrow 😅

This weekend at .revolution.festival , I got to spend precious moments with my children, enjoying the connections to spiritual practice, to like-minded people and the land we were upon. This is what Earth School will be...a permanent space for these moments and connections.

I'm calling in the land to hold Earth School 🌎🌀

Will Gowen has written a great article called 'A Civic Leap: Schools as Practice Fields for Democracy'.

He says:

"The most powerful thing a school can do for democracy right now isn't a better curriculum. It's becoming a democratic organization itself. Participatory governance. Real shared power. The school itself becomes the democracy"

This is interesting. The academy system is failing so many children. Children who can't and don't want to sit and learn worksheets and fronted adverbials. Who can't relate to a curriculum not built for them and a system that goes against the body and natual development. The system is broken. Let's build a new one.

Well that was a little bit gorgeous 😍 I was honoured to work with Home EdVenturers (Midlands) and to deliver a session on Nature Based Religion and Spiritual Practice. It felt very special to blend my personal spiritual practice, education and even fire dance with my Home Ed Community.

We began with an introduction to the history of Nature Based spiritual religion and practice, an exploration of practices, tools and materials used, then created our own altar, had a meditation. The. The children identified trees, made a Rowan Cross and decorated a May Bush (Hawthorn) followed by a fire ceremony and fire dance!

What a beautiful experience. I'm looking to create seasonal nature based connection days...so watch this space!
