Good news, one down, 3 to go. (Rotunda, Loamhole Di**le, Priorslee Flash)

The Jackfield and Coalport Memorial Footbridge reopened today following restoration works.

There are a couple of jobs still to do but these won’t require any further closures. The lights will be replaced next week and gates are to be installed at the bottom of the steps to stop cyclists and suron type bikes being ridden over the bridge (you can push a bicycle across). I’m also aiming to get the handrail repainted.

Restoring this bridge was a commitment I made back in 2019. I’ve had repairs done over the years but it’s good to have finally got a more substantial restoration.

I know that The Boat Inn has missed a few regulars over the last few weeks so now’s the time to head back and support this local pub.

Edit: Bridge is open again. Now that the closure of the Coalport and Jackfield Memorial bridge is in operation, here is our recommended diversion. Stay on the Silkin Way until its end, follow the track down to the Woodbridge . cross the Severn here. Then follow the Severn Way towards Ironbridge, re-joining the trail to go behind Jackfield church. This lengthens the route by about a mile https://explore.osmaps.com/route/33794240/diversion--telfordt5050miletrail-stage1
It is possible to walk along the road instead, but we don't recommend that.

Wellington Walking Festival - not long now until our first events set off on Monday 14th. But ...

What and where was Cinderloo?
Why are foxgloves so important to Wellington?
Where is Wellingtons Parish boundary?
Where is our local vineyard?
How many trees are there on the trail in Dothill and Shawbirch LNR?
What is a benchmark and where are they on the Wrekin?
Who are the women who influenced Wellington and the world beyond?
Where is the Shropshire Way?
What is a 'Slow Way'?
What and where are the Jitties?
Where can you take a ride on a steam train?
Where are the lesser know paths on the Wrekin?
What's special about Nordic Walking?

Answers to all these are in the festival, plus lots more.
Make sure you book your places before it's too late.
Even if an event is full, it's worth going onto the Reserves list as we often get late cancellations and can offer places to those on the list.

Advance notice of a diversion needed from September 7th for 8 weeks. The nice diversion is to continue on the Silkin Way to the Woodbridge then come back on the old railway line , rejoining the trail in Jackfield. This adds about 2 miles. The shorter alternative is to follow the road to the Jackfield bridge and cross there. This is not as pleasant and care is needed on the road.

The Relay Challenge finished in June, but this group of 6 friends, organised by Carl Evans, enjoyed running the relay yesterday, finishing in 9 hours 20 minutes. They are looking good in the strong group finish.

Today six of us took advantage of the Wrekin Connect bus to make the logistics of walking Stages 2 and 3 of the trail easy. 3 started from Ironbridge and another 3 caught the bus an hour later and joined in in Coalbrookdale. If you want to use this bus you only have until September 13th. It runs hourly on Fridays to Sundays and is very quick.
