🍽️ THE DEMENTIA-FRIENDLY KITCHEN

Most kitchens are designed for healthy adults.

A dementia-friendly kitchen is designed for a brain that processes information differently.

As dementia progresses, the brain may struggle to distinguish objects from backgrounds, interpret patterns, locate everyday items, or focus on a task when there is too much visual information competing for attention.

That is why design matters.

Notice the red plate. The bright contrast helps the brain see food more easily.

Notice the labeled cabinets. Labels support independence and reduce frustration.

Notice the clear countertops. Less clutter means less cognitive overload.

Notice the bright, even lighting. Good lighting reduces shadows, confusion, and fall risk.

Notice the familiar family photos and treasured recipe card. Dementia care is not only about safety. It is about preserving identity, memory, and connection.

Something as simple as changing a plate color, organizing a countertop, improving lighting, or removing a busy pattern can make daily life easier for someone living with dementia.

The goal is not perfection.

The goal is understanding.

When the environment becomes easier for the brain to understand, people often experience less anxiety, more confidence, greater independence, and a better quality of life.

A safer kitchen is not just safer.

It is more understandable to the changing brain.

🏡 Because the home is not simply where care happens.

❤️ The home is part of the care plan.
