We are called to live and love as Jesus did, to go to the hardest places, stand with the most vulnerable, and refuse to accept lives being destroyed by extreme poverty. We tackle poverty and injustice through sustainable development, by responding to disasters and challenging injustice. Thousands of people needlessly suffer and die every day because of poverty. But that’s not God’s plan for the wo

rld. And God is calling you – all of us – to reach out to people in greatest need. We partner with local churches and organisations who have a crucial role to play in the places worst affected by poverty.

‘People spread lies about the disease. That is why people are afraid to come.’

For 20 years, Pastor Nyakulinda Schadrack has led the ECN Church in Goli village, Ituri.

Today, his ministry faces a deadly strain of Ebola, where a part of the population remains skeptical about the existence of the disease. He actively participates in raising awareness among his faithful by recalling good prevention practices.

He is pairing the word of God with vital public health measures:
🧼 Mandatory handwashing with soap and clean water.
😷 Respecting barrier measures and hygiene protocols.
🌱 Keeping the church environment safe and clean.

Thanks to training from Action Entraide, supported by Tearfund, the church is learning to fight back. But they urgently need more resources like liquid soap, masks, and gloves to keep the virus at bay.

As they protect against the virus, they answer fear with scripture, standing on Isaiah 41:10: ‘Do not be afraid... for I, God, am with you.’

In Karamoja, Uganda, extreme hunger often forces families apart. For years, 20-year-old Esther had to care for her five younger siblings alone while her parents worked on a distant farm.

They survived on just one meal a day. When the rains failed, crops withered, leaving them with nothing to eat and nothing to sell.

During the toughest seasons, Esther had to forage for wild grass and climb trees for leaves just to keep her siblings from starving: ‘If you don’t find food, it means you go to sleep hungry.’

But love didn't stay at a distance. 🧡

Through your support of Tearfund and our local church partners, Esther joined a sustainable agriculture training group. Today, her reality looks completely different:

🌱 She learned how to cultivate a thriving kitchen garden.
🍅 The family now grows fresh vegetables, tomatoes, and onions year-round.
🏡 With the income from selling vegetables, Esther’s family bought more land and built a new home!

Esther says, ‘Hunger won’t touch us again.’

She is breaking the cycle of hunger for her siblings and for generations to come.

This is what love in action looks like. https://f.mtr.cool/isqchojrdk

Our teams in the Middle East aren't just serving their communities – they are part of them.

Join us in praying not just for the aid being delivered, but for the hearts, minds, and protection of those delivering it.

Let’s also lift up the peacemakers, church leaders, and political leaders guiding the region toward reconciliation. 🙏

We don't wait for the 'right time' to love. Tearfund follows Jesus into the struggle to build a future that starts today.

This is where love leads: to a future where extreme poverty doesn’t exist and where hope is never extinguished.

With 635 confirmed Ebola cases and 127 deaths, there is growing fear across the Democratic Republic of Congo. Tearfund has spoken to one of the church leaders we work alongside on the frontline of the Ebola epidemic in the DRC.

'We are afraid these days because of the deaths caused by the Ebola epidemic. This situation is very serious,' says Reverend Pastor JarieKong’A Munguromo Penuel.

Tearfund is currently working with local partners and faith leaders to share prevention and safety guidelines, distributing hygiene kits with soap for handwashing, building toilets and managing waste, to prevent the spread of the disease.

Donate to our Ebola Crisis Appeal and help Tearfund and our local partners provide life-saving supplies to people affected by the Ebola outbreak. https://f.mtr.cool/jbqujztyet
