Crossroads Care Richmond & Kingston Crossroads Care Richmond and Kingston provides bespoke, high-quality home and community respite care

Crossroads Care Richmond and Kingston-upon-Thames was established in 1987. We are affiliated to the national network of Carers Trust and are the leading local provider of support for carers and the people they care for. We work with carers and their families, helping carers to make a life of their own outside caring. We provide the special quality of care that gives them the peace of mind to let s

omeone else step into their shoes. Our core service is the provision of home-based respite care with our skilled and dedicated care-staff taking over the role of caring for a few hours whist the carer takes a break. Our community based projects include a Saturday Club for children with special needs, giving parent-carers weekend respite. Our Time Out project for Young Carers with special needs is an innovative and new project. The Caring Café for people affected by dementia in partnership in with the Alzheimer’s Society South West Branch supports both carers and people with care needs.

We were delighted to welcome Harry Messenger to the Crossroads Care offices yesterday, where he led an engaging AI workshop for our staff team. The session gave everyone the opportunity to explore how artificial intelligence can support our work and develop greater AI literacy across the organisation.

Harry is a long-standing supporter of Crossroads Care, having taken on the incredible challenge of running the Californian Ironman on 27 October 2024, raising more than £7,000 in support of our work with carers.

Julie Da Costa, CEO of Crossroads Care, said: ‘We’re so grateful to Harry for continuing to support Crossroads. From his amazing Ironman challenge to helping our team learn more about AI, Harry is helping us to build skills and develop new ways of working that will ultimately benefit the carers that we support as well as their loved-ones.’

We are saying an enormous thank you to Kew Gardens Rotary for giving personalised festive food hampers to all the children and young people with special educational needs who attended our fantastic Saturday Club Christmas party over the weekend.

The party also featured an end of year show where the children and young people gave a performance that included street dance and karate. And a very special guest made an appearance too — Santa turned up to give presents to the children.

Julie Da Costa, Crossroads Care CEO, who attended said: ‘What a wonderful and joyful event it was – made even more special by the Rotary Club of Kew Gardens who came along to give the children hugely appreciated hampers — a tradition now in its sixth year.

‘We really couldn’t be more grateful for the Rotary Club's continued and most generous support for Crossroads, particularly at a time when the families that we support are feeling the financial strain of the festive season.’

Suzanne Sheffer, from the Rotary Club of Kew Gardens, said: 'We are absolutely delighted, for the sixth year, to be able to create special Christmas food bags for the children attending Crossroads Care Saturday Club, and their families.

'We all so enjoyed the concert – it was such a happy event.'

As part of our Winter Response, we celebrated the festive season with an unforgettable Crossroads Carers’ Christmas Party, attended by the Mayor of Richmond, Cllr Penny Frost. The room at the Anglers Pub, Teddington, was filled with laughter, lively conversation and plenty of cracker-pulling as carers and their loved ones came together to enjoy a festive meal.

Nicola Wilson, Crossroads Care Operations Manager, said: ‘Thanks to the incredible generosity shown through our Christmas Hamper Appeal, we were delighted to host this wonderful Christmas event for the third year in a row, as well as delivering more than 50 festive hampers to people in need.

‘Many carers and those they support often miss out on a traditional Christmas Day — enjoying a roast dinner, exchanging gifts and spending time with family and friends — so it was very special to create an opportunity for them to relax and fully embrace the festive season.’

We extend our heartfelt thanks to Newland House School Parents Association for supporting our cause. Thank you also to the Mayor of Richmond, The Anglers, Teddington, all our attendees, and our amazing staff team who helped to make this event truly magical.

Special thanks go to community donors and the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames for their continued support.

🎄A heartfelt thank you to the Salvation Army, Teddington!🎄

We are so grateful to the Salvation Army for putting together so many wonderful Christmas gifts for the many local children with disabilities that we support in Richmond and Kingston upon Thames.

‘Christmas places a significant financial strain on many of the families we support, especially with the rising cost of living,’ said Nicola Wilson, Crossroads Operations Manager.

‘We are truly thankful to the Salvation Army for their generosity and kindness. These thoughtful, personalized gifts will bring immense joy to the children and their families that we support.’

Our Chair of Trustees, Peter Adcock, joined Lady Eleanor Holles School yesterday to celebrate the festive season at their Christmas fete.

We’re delighted that LEH has chosen Crossroads Care as one of its charities of the year for 2026 — thank you for your incredible support!

Peter attended the event to share how Crossroads Care helps vulnerable and socially isolated carers and the people they care for.

He said: 'The Christmas market was great fun, and it was wonderful to see everyone enjoying themselves. A big thank you to the staff and pupils at the school for their generous support of Crossroads Care — it means so much to us.'

Richmond Council are asking residents to complete a Dementia Awareness Measure survey.

The council wants to learn about what is understood about signs of dementia, risk factors and reducing risk.

The survey takes ten minutes to complete and needs to be done by next Monday (15 December)

Thank you to Councillors Piers Allen and Clare Vollum for attending our Carers Café — for carers and those they care for — to share information about the survey.

Enormous thanks to Her Worship the Mayor of the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames, Councillor Penny Frost, and to the London Welsh Rugby Club Choir for putting on an outstanding performance on Friday night in aid of Crossroads Care and Small Steps.

We are so grateful to be one of the Mayor’s chosen charities for this civic year.

Do please look out for several other events — to be announced — which the Mayor will be putting on in 2026 to further support us.

On International Volunteer Day, one of our volunteers Sarah-Jane Cohen shares what it’s like to volunteer for Crossroads Care Richmond and Kingston.

Sarah-Jane, who helps out at our Teddington head office every week, began volunteering at the beginning of 2024 because she felt so strongly about our mission to support unpaid carers and the people they care for.

‘Many years earlier my sister and I had cared for our mum through her terminal cancer, and my husband was caring for his elderly father, so I had some knowledge of the need for carers to be supported,’ says Sarah-Jane.

‘I love going into the office as it allows me to feel part of a team, and everyone at Crossroads is kind and invested in doing the best for clients. The time I spend at Crossroads is time well spent, and volunteering has given me back a sense of belonging.’

Sarah-Jane was delighted to be chosen as Employee of the Month earlier this year. Here she is pictured with our office Manager, Sarah Toma.
