Mary McIntyre, Tackley’s very own astronomer, astrophotographer and writer, is our speaker on Tuesday evening, 6th October. She’ll be giving her illustrated talk “My Astrophotography Highlights” showing us her favourite astronomy photos taken over the last 15+ years. Those who’ve seen Mary’s talks before will know what an enthusiastic and engaging speaker she is, so we’re all very much looking forward to welcoming her back!

We do hope you can join us. It’s an Open Meeting so men are welcome too!

A few photos from our Open Coffee Morning on Monday which was enjoyed by members and visitors alike.

The sun shone so we were able to sit outside and enjoy Jennifer’s beautiful garden and a very special highlight was having our lovely member Margaret, who’s recently moved into a nearby care home, back amongst us. Thank you to those involved in arranging this and a big thank you to Jennifer (& Roy) for hosting us!

❤️ Bystanders Can Be Lifesavers ❤️

In line with the WI’s national campaign ‘Bystanders Can Be Lifesavers’, we were delighted to welcome Alex Harrison, a first responder from South Central Ambulance Service, to talk to us about this incredibly important topic.

Alex was an excellent speaker and really brought home the vital message that every second counts when someone suffers an out of hospital cardiac arrest. Knowing what to do — and having the confidence to act — can genuinely make the difference between life and death.

A huge well done to our members Louise and Pam who kindly volunteered to take part in a practical demonstration of CPR and the use of a defibrillator. 👏

A very informative and worthwhile evening, and a great reminder that bystanders really can be lifesavers! ❤️

We had a great hands-on evening learning how to make felted sheep at our meeting earlier this month. We were pretty much all novices so there was lots of concentration required and a few pricked fingers but we absolutely loved it!

Our next meeting is this Tuesday (7th July) when we’ll be welcoming Alastair Lack to give a talk on "The Oxford of Inspector Morse." Hear about the locations of the many murders, plots and intrigue of the famous TV detectives Morse, Lewis and Endeavour. Find out which famous pubs they visited where Morse would say “just time for one more pint, Lewis” and see the colleges where scenes were filmed.

Alastair studied at Oxford University before working for the BBC for almost thirty years and then worked for Oxford University before training as a Green Badge Guide for the city of Oxford.

This is an Open Meeting which means all are welcome, men included! Visitors fee - £5.00 to include refreshments.

Time: 7.30 for 7.45pm
Venue: Tackley Village Hall
