If you're a parent, you'll know how expensive back-to-school shopping can be...

Families typically have to pay for:

- Learning materials ๐Ÿ“š
- Uniform (including PE kits and bags) ๐Ÿ‘•
- New shoes ๐Ÿ‘Ÿ
- Lunch bags & school meals ๐Ÿฅช
- Bus fare ๐ŸšŒ
- Tech for homework (laptops, Wi-Fi, etc.) ๐Ÿ’ป

In total, that's a minimum of ยฃ1,000+ a year for a primary school child, and ยฃ2,300+ for secondary*. ๐Ÿ˜ณ

When the basics cost that much, it's often the hobbies and extracurricular activities that have to be paused. But these are the things that help kids build confidence, make friends and find out what they're good at in life!

Our funded activities mean the young people of Salford don't have to give those up, whatever's happening with the family finances.

We caught up with John Denton after he released his debut EP earlier this summer! ๐Ÿ“€

At just 16, we can't imagine how it feels to have created an album and released it to the world. The response has been fantastic and John keeps on collecting fans as the months go on!

We can't wait to hear his next musical creations... although we do hope he finds SOME time to relax. ๐Ÿ˜ฎโ€๐Ÿ’จ

Families who are trying their best and doing everything right can still find themselves unable to cover the basics, let alone the extras like sports kit, music lessons and other hobby costs!

At The Salford Trust, we know how hard it is to keep things afloat and we want to help every young person do the things they love.

We can fund club fees, instrument costs, competition expenses and much more! โšฝ

Sports and hobbies are just the start - we also fund the future! ๐Ÿ”ฎ

We help young people equip themselves with professional skills through short courses, in-person and online training, and the tools they need to make a hobby into a small business.

These can help young people get their first job, shape future careers or get a head-start on their dream role!

Whatever the goal, we're here to help young people get there.

Our funding helps young people step outside their comfort zones! ๐Ÿ’ช

For teen singer Daisy, that recently meant playing her keyboard and singing a country song in front of an audience - both things she wasn't entirely comfortable with, but is so glad she did!

For go-karter Oliver, our funding gave him the opportunity to grow his social skills, meet new people, and come out of his shell in ways his family are so proud of. ๐Ÿ’ž

We could mention so many more examples but we'd be here all day!

The opportunities we fund give people the courage to try something new - maybe a bit scary at first - and grow from the experience.

Know a young person ready to leap out of their own comfort zone? Applications are open all year round - apply here: https://bit.ly/3ObsvwU

Wonderful words from Debbie about her son Oliver's go-karting progress! ๐Ÿ

Our funding was able to give Oliver the means to try something completely new... and that's turned into a long-term passion.

Oliver hasn't just gained experience, skills and confidence - he's discovered a real talent within himself and is soaring up leaderboards!

Could you or a young person you know benefit from our funded hobbies? Check our eligibility criteria on our website ๐Ÿ‘‰ https://bit.ly/3ObsvwU

We often tell people that our aim is to remove barriers for young people in Salford... but what does that actually look like? ๐Ÿšง

The bit that most people already know is that we cover membership costs for sports, hobbies and other development opportunities.

But barriers show up everywhere! For example, we can also contribute towards the costs of:

- Kit and equipment ๐Ÿฅพ
- Travel to training and competitions ๐ŸšŒ
- Other extras, like exam fees & entry costs ๐Ÿ‘›

Removing barriers also extends much further than taking part in an activity. Every session builds resilience, teamwork and confidence, which can remove hurdles later in life too - like when applying for a first job or pursuing a dream career!

Daisy Allen has become the first ever winner of the Speakers Trust's North West Speak Out Challenge 2026! ๐Ÿ†

Daisy took to the stage at Manchester's Contact
Theatre and delivered a beautiful speech on 'Happiness is a Choice', which won over the judges against 13 other finalists from across the North West.

The confidence Daisy has built through singing has played a huge part in getting her up on that stage in front of a packed audience. We love to see it!

We're so proud to have supported Daisy on her singing journey, and even prouder to watch that confidence carry her to national wins like this. ๐Ÿ‘
