Overdose Awareness Day is on the 31st August and we want to share information and advice on synthetic drugs, including nitazenes. Synthetic drugs can be hundreds of times stronger than he**in but may look the same. They have led to a steep increase in accidental overdoses and deaths.

If you use drugs, to help keep yourself and your friends as safe as possible:

🧑‍🤝‍🧑Try not to use drugs alone – have friends around to keep an eye on you and look out for signs of an overdose.

💉Carry naloxone – naloxone can temporarily reverse the side effects of an opioid overdose, including non-opiate drugs that are contaminated.

⏰Start low go slow – contaminated drugs may look the same as drugs you usually take. Start off with a smaller dose and wait to see the effects before taking more.

💊Use one drug at a time – mixing drugs or taking 2 or more drugs together within a short time significantly increases the risks of an overdose.

Do you know the signs of an overdose?

It’s Overdose Awareness Day August 31st, and we want to make sure everyone can recognise the signs of an overdose.

Keep an eye out for:

- Deep snoring/gurgling noises
- You can’t wake the person up, and they don’t respond if you shake their shoulders or call their name
- A blue tinge to the lips, nail beds or other extremities
- They have stopped breathing

If you think someone has overdosed, call 999 and wait for an ambulance.

You can also give them naloxone, but this will only be effective if they have taken opioids or drugs contaminated with synthetic opioids. If you think someone is overdosing but you aren’t sure what they’ve taken, you can still give them naloxone. It won’t hurt them, and it could help them.
