Important Update!

BBQ hire suspended at Lydiard Park due to hot and dry conditions ❌

Following the recent hot and dry conditions, the use of barbecues has been suspended across all Swindon Borough Council-owned country parks, including the bookable BBQs at Lydiard Park.

If you have an upcoming booking impacted by the suspension, you will be contacted and a full refund will be processed automatically.

We apologise for any disappointment this may cause.

You can help reduce the risk of fires by:
- Extinguishing ci******es properly and never discarding them on dry grass
- Taking litter home or using bins provided, as discarded glass and rubbish can start fires

Let's all play our part to protect our green spaces this summer.

Ignore the Locals. That is what the Labour PM Andy Burnham is
Progressing with new regulations concerning Planning Committees.

Did you know that Central Government is progressing new Regulations concerning Planning Committees and the National Scheme of Delegation of Planning Functions. The proposed National Scheme would replace local schemes of delegation currently used by local planning authorities, including Swindon Borough Council’s existing arrangements.

Well Done Swindon Conservative Councillors Vijay Manro and Cllr Marco Di Pinto for Stratton St. Margaret for the motion which emphasised on : Protecting Local Democratic Oversight in Planning Decision.

To request that the Leader of the Council writes to the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government, the Minister of State for Housing and Planning, Swindon’s three Members of Parliament, and the Local Government Association to:
Express this Council’s concern about the proposed removal of local discretion over planning delegation arrangements.
To Call on the Government to reconsider or amend the Regulations so that local planning authorities retain the ability to operate locally appropriate schemes of delegation.
Request that Ward Councillors and Parish Councils retain a meaningful ability to request that appropriate planning applications are referred to Planning Committee for determination.
Ask that any national scheme preserves sufficient flexibility for councils to reflect local circumstances, including the different needs of urban, suburban, rural and parish communities.
Request stronger safeguards to ensure transparency, including clear published reasons where requests for committee determination are not accepted.
Call for the implementation date to be reviewed, if necessary, to allow proper parliamentary scrutiny, engagement with local authorities and consideration of the impact on local democratic accountability.
Ask the Government to work with local authorities, the Local Government Association, the Planning Advisory Service and other relevant bodies to develop a more balanced approach which improves efficiency without removing legitimate local democratic oversight.
