Last weekend saw Duke William travel from Normandy to Sherwood Pines, to bring the idea of the Grand Tourney to the shores of England, to celebrate Regia Anglorums 40th Birthday. Bringing with him, a band of Norman's to face off against the Vikings led by Harald Hardrada, the Saxons led by Edward the Confessor, and the Scots led by King Macbeth.

And to no ones surprise, and definitely not due to tampering with the scoreboard or threats to the judges, the valiant Normans took the victory... yes, that's definitely how it went...

Now it's time to return to Normandy, to definitely not plan a return visit in a few years time.

Join us this Sunday!

The Gower Show returns to Penrice Castle this weekend, with a brand-new attraction alongside its usual favourites 🐴

📅 One of Gower's biggest days out takes place on Sunday, August 2nd, from 9am until 5.30pm, hosted once again in the grounds of Penrice Castle. The show first began back in 1906 in the very same grounds, drawing 480 entries in its opening year, and has been a fixture of Gower life ever since.

⚔️ New for this year, early medieval re-enactment group Gwerin Y Gŵyr will bring Viking and Welsh warrior culture to life in the President's Ring, with clashes and displays running throughout the day.

🐕 Alongside that, expect all the usual highlights — Shire horses, a tug of war, a novelty dog show open to entries on the day, vintage engines, and the cookery and craft tents that have kept the show a Gower institution for generations.

💬 Gower Show General Secretary Jodie O'Brien said: "For us, the Gower Show represents community, family and tradition. It's a day that brings people together from all walks of life to celebrate our rural and agricultural heritage, support local talent, and create memories that last for generations."

📊 Organisers estimate between 7,000 and 10,000 people attend each year, making it one of the biggest dates on the Gower calendar.

With only 1 week to go until we make our first appearance at the Gower Show, we've been sharpening our skills and putting the shield wall through its paces. Do you think your shield wall could stand against the mighty Boarsnout formation? Join us this Sunday to find out.

Come along to learn about the Viking Age in Wales. See the battles, hold the weapons, try on the armour and discover the music and crafts that took place here over a thousand years ago!

Will you answer the call and join the shield wall?
