Had an interesting chat with Facebook....
It all started when a Fake Facebook account asked us for a ransom in 50k bitcoin or they would interfere with our website and tell everyone we were terrible across social media. He did do this, stating the charity did not exist on posts where we were helping victims etc, despite having nearly a decade of searchable history. The response from Facebook was to put us on notice....stating the page was 'pretending to be a celebrity' -whatever that means. I guess this is what our troll stated when we reported his fake account. No evidence or confirmation was offered. Just the charge and a demand to see the COMPANY passport - Trustees or Founder not enough. That isn't a thing, and there is nobody that can clarify after weeks of asking.
Cyber Security traced the fake account down to a sheltered housing development in Birmingham. We could involve Police, and I am tempted, but the guy has learning difficulties and has been booted out of several shelters for this type of behaviour. I think his life is sad enough. He has several fake accounts, and for some bizarre reason, facebook are fine with that. Because of what we do with crime prevention, we get many malicious attacks to take down our pages and groups by theft gangs - but usually Facebook had someone to support that could see what is going on. That is no longer the case, with AI in sole control of the entire system - or so it claims.
Sounds like a scam - but that cannot be confirmed as according to the in control of facebook help centre, there is nobody that can help and the AI does not understand the issue. No escalation, no complaints procedure - just 'sorry, nothing I can do', just advised on how to delete your account and data and go to another social media platform.
This chat uncovered some deeply concerning security issues regarding data and the security of it with AI describing a complete lack of understanding of it's obligations, as well as some destructive business ethics of telling users to go elsewhere when it does not understand. It appears the sole charge of the company has been left with tech that cannot control it, does not understand. That is very worrying when you consider the amount of data it collects from you, and it doesn't understand what it can and can't do.
I have reached out to confirm before releasing a story in Facebook Security issues, but there is nobody there....apparently! Maybe Javier Olivan as COO is no longer there? Has vanished? What is to happen when AI cannot understand and tells you to use competitors? Doesn't sound the astute business choices that got them where they are, or is it a data collection device now? That would make sense with taking you eyes off the ball, and let it autonomously harvest data that it 'doesn't know' how to protect. Deeply concerning, and there is no way of getting an explanation. Maybe this is get a response - oddly the AI gave permission to publish a story online...no press office either then?
