Report from Malcolm from Saturday: A handful more of the doughty souls who worked through showers and (brief) sunshine. Sarah, Pauline, Karim, Linda, Clive, Leo and Masha were also around.

And photos 4-8 are by .man.drawings from Wednesday’s session.

The first sunflower is out! 🌻 How exciting! The recent heatwave has really pushed them along very quickly.

It’s in the last zero in the 100 which is a mixture of Claret, Autumn Beauty or Giant Singles, which it appears this one is not any of them! It’s exciting nonetheless!

Various from Saturday’s volunteer session:

1 Half a dozen dahlias donated by supporter Phil who thought of us when his son moved away and dug up the dahlias from his garden for the Prom 🙏🏻💚

2 Malcolm tackled the thistles in Attenborough Garden

3 Water was left out for Robin 🐦

4-5 Karim tidied up the hedge around the Bandstand

6 Athelstan Garden had its first thorough soak since the winter. Big thanks to Stefan, Angela, Carita, Pete and Abu (who we accosted on his morning jog, thank you kind gentleman!) for answering the cry for help. We have filled and emptied hundreds (not joking!) of buckets and watering cans on to all those lovely plants. Unfortunately one of our flexi trugs sprung a leak as did a watering can, so if anyone has a spare large plastic one hanging around or a large flexi trug you want to get rid of (no leaks please!) please do donate them to us.

Clive made sure the 100 Sunflowers, the whole Italian Garden and Figgy Garden had a good water with the hoses.

And Pauline made sure the Pocket Park plants were well watered and the Brownies’ sunflowers outside the PP, around the tree pit.

Well done all 👏🏻👍🏻 📸 , , .gross68 and Karim

🌻 Progress report: 100 Sunflowers and the 3rd Surbiton Brownies ring outside the Pocket Park - looking so good! Some are a metre tall! Can’t wait for them to start to flower! 🌻

In the 1, we have Titans at the back and Teddy bears at the front. In the first 0, Giant Singles. And the other 0 has Autumn beauties, Claret and a mixture of unknowns. The Brownies planted seeds gifted to So-Shan from her friend’s allotment, Giant Singles, like the first 0.

The 100 Sunflowers are growing strong and robust with some now producing flower buds - our attentive watering has proven beneficial! 🌻 📸 .renton
